The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 11

Posted on 01/02/2007 9:57:39 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the previous threads we have had a great time talking through lessons, training, horse lamenesses, illnesses and pregnancies... and always sharing pictures and stories.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will now be pinging everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Glad to hear your sheetrock is dry.

Fog here, and deep-freeze temperatures tonight.

She hasn't been on today, I'm a little concerned that her power's out. My friend from the HH thread that's in the same town said it was probably worse up where Becky's at.

Becky... I hope your power isn't out for 24 tonight!

Hello,

No our power hasn't been out, just not venturing out of my chair much.

We have more sleet falling now, and some of the trees are really starting to lean and sag, if I'm going to loose power it will probably be tonight around 7...when 24 is due to start:\

Luckily we've only received sleet here, not the freezing rain some have gotten, so it is possible to drive, not all that slick with just the sleet. Today tho, I think we are getting a mix of rain and sleet. Whatever it is, it's getting pretty miserable.

Becky

Posting some pics I took today... Still in our deep freeze here, so horses got hay in the sun again...

The trees behind all have a thin frost on them, makes them look like blue spruce :~)

And these are just some scenic artsy pics of the ponds in the back forty all frozen.

And Tweek has found her perfect camouflage :~)

And now the ugly... this is the mud between the barn and the paddock, which is now frozen hard as rocks into these pointy moguls. They are all having a horrible time walking on it.

Ah - good to hear from you! Glad you have power, hope you keep it!

Today tho, I think we are getting a mix of rain and sleet. Whatever it is, it's getting pretty miserable.

I think here they call that the "wintery mix"

I'm loading some pictures.

My kids just called, they have lost power, and for Jenny that means a loss of heat. Charlie heats with propane. But they are all heading up here, because we still have heat and as of now we still have power which means we have a TV:)

Wow, you don't look any better then we do here. I hate it when mud get's like that, it is hard for them to walk in.

The pony seems to be having a particularly hard time. I've never seen her have sore feet, but she's never been on 'rocks' either.

Sorry about your kid's power... You have heat if the power goes then? And you're probably trying to keep that machine warm too, right?

Wow, you don't look any better then we do here.

We're definitely better off than you are. The snow we've got is the same snow that fell last week. We don't have anything falling out of the sky, it's been sunny now for days and it's kindof pretty, but shivery cold.

Yes, we heat the house with propane. Are concern is the seal coat machine. Charlie is bringing a portable propane heater up when he comes that we can put out in the shop. The problem with that will be keeping it going, it will have to be checked often. I don't know if anyone knows how long a propane bottle would last running full time full blast.

I'll have pictures in a bit.

Yeah, it's the seal coat machine I was wondering about. Hopefully your electricity will hold.

Well, it does look pretty, if chilly! Have you had trees breaking from the ice? g'nad has at his place, he's posted some pics in the HH.

Are the ponies staying in and dry?

Pretty if you can stay inside and warm. I'm watching the TX channel and see a lot of accidents have happened though. I got stuck yesterday (in mud) at the horses. I had to rock out of it.
