If Baldwin manhandled Basinger, no matter what she may have done to anger him, she got the high moral ground in my book.
Baldwin should just pay and go away. The child will never respect him, and calling her a pig didn't help his cause. Basinger has won, and if Baldwin has any sense, he will just write the check and move on.
Not agreed that Basinger gets the moral highground by default. Had she dumped him like a hot rock -- had the first time he hit her been the last time he hit her -- I'd concede to her that more elevated ground. And if indeed that's what she did, she's deserving of respect and I'll admit my mistake. But if he smacked her around more than once and she stuck around and brought/kept a child in the mix, then she's on no higher moral ground than Baldwin.
