Possibly having cheated on his wife or on his taxes isn’t pertinent to the Bonds home run issue....but steroids are. Those who believe that Bonds *hasn’t* taken steroids are the same folks who believe that Clinton really *didn’t* have sexual relations with “that woman” and who still believe in the tooth fairy.

Bonds is certainly getting a free pass from the fans here and to some extent the local media.

If he played for any other team he would be crucified by SF fans and press. But I guess that would probably hold true no matter whom he played for.

Barry Bonds has used steroids, as the man’s radically changed physical appearance over time demonstrates for anyone who is being even remotely honest with themselves. BALCO employees’ testimony bears this out legally as well. Bonds’ larger problem has to do with his behavior, which is that of a 1st class jerk. If he were a normal guy who then asked for forgiveness to fans, the media, and everyone else for his past drug use (at least some of which he could reasonably suggest was unintentional), people might well be willing to forgive him. Because he’s an a**, most never will.
