The article is very short, and I think the Trib is pretty strict about re-posting their articles. I don't think that the whole article contains 100 words, but you'll have to click the link to see the details.

From my point of view as someone who owns exotics, the only interesting news is that John McCain owns several exotics. This fact gives me a little better feeling about him even though I hope the GOP picks someone else to be the nominee. One of his pets is a ferret, and I would be greatly amused to see one of the debate moderators throw out the question and let John McCain and Rudy Giuliani argue about ferrets.

The article praises Dennis Kucinich for getting all three of his dogs as rescues from the dog pound. It's rare for someone at Free Republic to say something nice about Dennis Kucinich, but I'll join the chorus of saying that his willingness to take a rescue from the pound says something good about him.

Otherwise, the candidates seem to be dog and cat people. Most of them have labs. I'm not sure whether that means anything. I'd hate to think that anyone would get a pet just because they think that owning that particular kind of pet was good for political image. Needless to say, my owning exotics wouldn't help my image if I ever became a politician.

I'd have to say there that owning a Lab is not because it's politcally astute but because they're just damn good dogs.

If HUSSEIN Obama gets elected, forget about pets. He will keep Jews as slaves.

In 2000, the neighbors across the street from my folks suddenly ended up with a black lab puppy. I think it just wandered into the yard one day, but I don't remember. They couldn't find an owner and decided to keep it as a rescue. They couldn't think of a name for a while, but about that time, the Democrats launched one of their typically mean, unfair attacks against (then) Governor Bush. As a show of support, the neighbors decided to name the dog after Mr. Bush, and the dog has been "Dubya" ever since. He's a great dog.

I suspect that among Republicans, the next year or so will see a large number of new pets with names like Rudy (not any of mine!!), Fred, Duncan, Mitt, and maybe Huck. To start the trend, I decided that my latest acquisition will be named "Duncan" in support of Duncan Hunter. This one may be one of the more unique animals named for a presidential candidate.

Meet the latest Duncan!

That makes sense, but it wouldn't explain why Democrats own them.

If one of them had a pet cow, he’d probably get my vote. I’m not talking cattle rancher. I mean, somebody who gets up every morning before the sun, and milks Bessie. If he does that, everything else will fall into place.

That’s an interesting perspective, and there is some wisdom in that thought.

And if he’s a wise man, Bessie would probably be his best advisor.
