David Chase whacked the audience. We never saw it coming- our time as observers is done. Their life is going on, whether that means behind jail or with some of them dead. We’re done. No neat closure for us.

Artistically, I think you've hit it. Another thing... Chase said a long time ago that he's known how the series would end right from the beginning.
