Please DO NOT read this thread if you have not seen the movie. Even if you have read this book, topics under discussion can affect what you will expect in the last book.
Several pet theories for the Deathy Hallows have, perhaps, been laid to rest by the release of this movie. A number of plot points I had thought were important to the end of the series were completely left out of Order of the Phoenix.
1. There is absolutely NO reference to the cleaning of Grimmauld Place. Thus, any speculation about the locket horcrux being hoarded by Kreacher must be false.
2. The prophecy was never heard in full. The portion of the prophecy which could have referred to Neville instead of Harry was omitted.
3. There was no mention of Percy's estrangement from his family. Percy was shown at Fudge's side at important points, but unless his face was remembered from previous movies, people not reading the book may not have caught that.
There were two plot changes which puzzled me. Cho was the one who gave Dumbledore's Army away, not the unimportant character of Marietta. Also, Sirius, before he falls through the veil calls Harry, "James". I assume these changes have a point, but I don't know what.
There was also no reference to Hermione and Ron being Prefects. There was no Quidditch at all, so Ron would not be on the team.
I always picture those posters to look like the mom in the movie “Carrie.” You know, yelling at women to cover their dirty pillows, telling everyone they are going to Hell for not living exactly like they do, freaking out the neighbors, etc.
Maybe.
My least favorite phrase (besides “it’s a religion of peace”) Is “social engineering”.

Our two younger kids and I each have our own sets of the books. We always discuss them when a new one has come out, or when one or the other of us has re-read one we already have. They're fun reads!
For folks looking for a series of books to read to their kids that are like the Potter books in that there is a clear delineation between good and evil, there are the 'Redwall' books. The characters in the books are all animals, and the good ones in several of the books live in Redwall Abbey, but again, as in the Potter books, there is no 'religion', just the struggle between good and evil. I used to read them aloud to our two younger kids, even when they got to the point where they could read on their own, just because I liked giving accents to the different characters, based on the pattern of speech I could detect in the writing. For example, the Moles talked with a distinctly Cockney accent, and the Hares sounded like 19th century British military officers. It was fun, and the kids got a kick out of it.
I've read most of the published theories about what happens in Book 7. I'm currently about 1/3 through with my own scholarly writing on "Alcohol and Alcoholism in the Harry Potter Novels."
I forgot about the “Redwall” books... my son also read those a few years ago and had me buy more....
Thats another great choice for young readers...

You bet. Sybil Trelawney, Hagrid, Mundungus Fletcher, Winky the elf and Slughorn are all alkies. Towards the end Sirius develops a drinking problem, too.
Remember, in HBP, you were required to use blood to get into the chamber, and then you had to drink the potion. Dumbledore also made the point that the boat couldn't detect Harry in the boat because he was not an adult wizard.
Now, what if Regulus brought the blood in the bottle, and took Kreacher with him. He didn't have to weaken himself by cutting, and the boat wouldn't have detected Kreacher, since he is not a wizard. So what if Regulus had Kreacher drink the potion, allowing him to get the locket. That could explain why Kreacher looks so bad and acts crazy - could be a result of the potion.

The production costs would have been the same, most likely quite a bit higher, and it wouldn't have made the insane profits that the motion pictures do. But I completely agree. I would have preferred LOTR to have been made for tv as well, but it sure looked good up on the screen.
Yes, that would explain much.
Still, the production values and visual expectations for the small screen are much lower, the sets are simpler, the shooting can be mostly be done indoors anywhere, and CGI doesn’t need to be as detailed.
Granted, the special effects wouldn’t be as grand, but the storyline is robust enough to do the heavy lifting.
A production with a quality in the same ballpark as Dr Who, Stargate SG-1, or any of the Star Trek franchise is very doable...
