FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Well, you know some of them wimmen wore comfortable shoes and saw any male as a potential threat, but mine was perhaps especially so. ;~)

Just how cute is this?

And yet, they're still here!

Awwwwwww, that’s just cute beyond belief! Have you put an ad out for them yet?

And are y’all riding today? I’m fixing to head out here in 30 minutes or so to pick up HaveFaith and head to the Forest. We’ll be meeting BladeRider and Shirley for a ride at the horse camp. I guess I’ll ride Hope. I want to see for myself how she does in the new back shoes. Then next weekend is an organized ride at a new place at a wildlife mgt area up in TN that will be opening to horse riders for the first time. The girl who invited us says the trails are really pretty but fairly challenging so I guess I’ll take Bob that weekend. Wouldn’t want to take one of the youngsters on that, specially since I don’t know the trails.

Well, I guess I’d better get out and water the flowers before I leave. It’s supposed to be pretty hot here today and they get pretty thirsty. I’ll check back in later...

Naw - We’re not going today... It’s been raining all week - real rain, so it’s going to be sloppy up there, we decided to pass. IF it dries enough today I want to slog through the tall grass enough to at least cut it off the fenceline. It’s on the fence all the way around.

I made up a flyer yesterday but I have to put it up somewhere for people to see it :~)

Hello,

Did you watch the Belmont? Rather disappointing.

No - we just came in from outside. I haven’t seen it yet. There’s some talk that he looked off and the jockey pulled him up.

I thought it was, too. So far, they can’t find anything wrong with him.
I was all hyped up to get to watch history being made.

We got to ride about 4 hrs. in the 90+ degree heat. It was a good ride. Waterhead came and brought a friend, so that made 6 of us. I rode Sassy, the 2 year old black one. She is slow, but making progress. Waterhead made a comment like she might be trouble, but she was calm and collected and acted like a big girl. Elmo almost spooked out from under him once at a log, but she never spooked all day, even in the lead. Elmo has not had anymore problems since the Kentucky ride. Everyone is relieved he’s all right. He’s a good horse. They all did fine. Oh, and I almost forgot, I have to brag on one more thing. Sassy loaded and unloaded twice in Frog’s enclosed 2 horse straight load trailer and she’d never been in anything except a 3 horse slant load with open slats down the sides. I couldn’t believe it. OK, I’m through. Sorry, it’s just that she was such a spoiled brat, pain in the butt when she was little, I can’t believe I’m not having to fight with her.

I'm so glad your filly is doing so well for you! Well done! We didn't ride... it's been so wet we decided the trails would all be mud, so we instead worked on the other side effect of all this wet, the overgrown brush on the fence.

We cut the encroaching scotch broom back off the greenway for the fence, and this was initially very interesting for the horses...

This is about 3/4 of the way down the fenceline, looking back...

We got two sides of the pasture cut back, one more side that is like this to do today...

And some kitten pics... a rather contented Ewok kitten.

And this... Well... they are Gidget's kittens...

Thanks.

That stuff looks like it grows fast. Seems like you have to do it often. Kittens keep getting cuter. Hal got 2 baby geese at a trade day and tried to transfer them from the coop to the pond, now that they have big feathers. They followed him all the way back to the house. I told him they think he's their mama. There are movies abt. geese imprinting with people. It's true.

Awww I want geese. A grey goose named gandalf. :~)

That stuff does grow fast. We have pictures from 4 years ago, and that stuff had all been cut down to the ground.

My whole pasture was covered in that stuff when I moved here, you couldn’t even walk through it.

Looks like hard work. I need to be working on my pasture, but have decided tow wait till evenings when it’s cooler. It’s miserable here right now.

Yeah - that kitten knows how to get ticket to ride around here, pushing all the right buttons. :~)

We just got in from finishing the last two sides of the pasture. The last side is a pain where that woman pushed all that dirt up against the fence because we can’t just run the mower down that line any more. It’s a lot more work now.

I love those kittens. I’ve got a grey cat that moved in - apparently under the house with the other cats’ permission. I think it’s the grey that’s been living at the hay barn for a year. It’s really feral. I’m trying to decide how to trap it to see what it is and what is needs - spay/neuter/shots.

A lady came out today to look at BamBam, she’s coming back Friday to ride her. Seems like a nice lady and BamBam likes her so that’s good.

Janelle has been working CJ - she will reverse if Janelle just gently shakes the lunge line and come forward if she holds her hand out like she’s going to pull on the lunge line. Incredible watching it :)

Hope you get a chance to get out riding next weekend.

Sounds like good progress with the horses, I hope the nice lady buys Bam Bam. :~)

We caught Sister 1 last night! She's in the cage, we'll take her in first thing this morning. Her release timing will depend on what they find. I'm wondering if they can tell when she gave birth, if she did, of course. She didn't look as bagged up this time, but I haven't inspected closely.

Hi everyone

Thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers.

Things are still crazy on my end. I just can't seem to catch a break, and that's what been keeping me away from the forum. I haven't even had a chance to lurk. Work has been keeping me awfully busy, working well over 50 hours a week, and I've had one coworker who has been giving me a really hard time and is doing her darndest to push me out of my job. There have been times when I have come home in tears. This on top of all my family complications... it's just too much! I've been trying to separate work from home but it's nearly impossible considering that I spend most of my time (including weekends) at work! I have a really big project that I'm working on, and once it's finished, I'm O-U-T of here!

I do hope that everyone is well. I've been thinking of you all. Hair, what's this with new kittens? They are adorable!

Eh - my feral cat I’ve been feeding had a litter in the barn.

I am so sorry things are hard for you, and I know how stressful it can be when things are hostile at work. It’s hard to know what to do about it sometimes. Good luck to you! Find some peace if you can, go for a ride.

Are you taking sister 1 in for a spay? If you do, I believe that they can tell if she’s given birth once they get in there.

Yeah taking her in this morning. I’m expecting she’s either pregnant or already nursing or both. - we caught the mother of the kittens last week, this is the other one.
