FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

You know, the horse trailer sounds like a good idea. Never thought of that. and the vet could just go in there with her, I wouldn’t have to move her around so much.

That ~seems~ workable. Maybe still tranq her up heavily so the vet can get to her without any problems.

...Frogs bed partner?...

I'm such a tramp. I sleep with everybody's pets. I slept with Kari's dog on the Best of America ride.

The weekend trip sounds like fun! If you’ve got the time off and the money to fly then go for it! But you know we’ll have to see pictures, of the G-rated parts anyways. ;o)

Sounds like the best option to me. With the ACE she wouldn’t even know it was happening. That’s the best way to go to me.

So do I get the Ace from the vet? or feed store?

Vet. It’s prescription only. In fact, because it’s prescription, they won’t usually give it for a dog they haven’t seen and treated recently, but given the circumstance and the reason you want it, I’d think you could get a vet on board with the idea, you just have to explain the situation and the difficulty you and they will have in handling her otherwise.

Acepromazine is the full name. I’d go to one of the vets who knows you pretty well and talk to them... not the front desk gals, but the vet.

They all seem to love to sleep with you, too. I know Callie was tickled. I couldn’t keep her off your pillow.

The vet I’m taking her to is the one that treated her a few years ago, and the one I’ve used for all the dogs the last few years.

I’ll stop today when I’m in town and talk to him...the gal at the front desk is his wife, they know me.

Becky, do you know of any vets in your area that do housecalls?

That sounds like a good bet to have them work with you on doing this.

This particular vet doesn’t make house calls I don’t think, my horse vet does and would probably come to do the job for me, but I’m cheap:), If I can move her comfortably, I’d rather not have to pay a farmcall:\. It is something I’ve thought about tho...and if I can’t move her without hurting her I will see if one of them would come to here.

Well, I do too...he’s been a great cat. He’s probably between 12-15, but still had a lot of life in him. But if he doesn’t some home, I’ll think of it as for the best, since moving him to a new place, and keeping him in might not have set well with him.

Sorry, Faith, I must have left you out of the loop. This fellow is a guy that I’ve known since high school, and we’ve known each other for a long time. Our paths have crossed all the time, but just never actually met, and finally they have. And it’s pretty awesome! :-)

I don't usually go into detail about things at my house, but I have to share this. It's horsey.

A month ago we got a "Paso Fino" at a sale. Hal just wanted a horse with a gait like that to cross with a Tenn. Walker to get a smaller smooth gaited horse. We waited almost a month and she didn't come in season (all the others did), so we took her to get an ultra sound to see if she was already bred (she's mud fat) or when she would be in. He told us she would breed in 2 or 3 days.

In the meantime Hal had been all over looking for the stud he wanted to use and finally settled on a white Racking horse at some people's barn 20 miles or so from us. He took me and showed him to me and they let him ride him and he was really smooth and pretty fast.

Anyway, we took her Monday, they teased her and she stood for him and that's done. So that means we have 2 silent mares now instead of one. While we were there they rode a couple more horses and told me they would look at mine and see what they thought abt. getting her to gait smoother. So........

After I rode her for 3 hrs. Wed. and she almost jarred my guts out, I took them up on it. We took her last night and they watched me ride her and told me what needed to be done. She really was smoother there because it's a dirt floor in the barn (an old chicken house) and I had ridden on gravel rodes and pavement that morning, but she's never been smooth like Daisy is. I guess since I've been having to ride Daisy while Faith was recuperating I got spoiled. Anyway, she didn't have enough foot to do what they recommend so they said wait till it grows out and try. OKAY, that's that.

Hal took Sassy to get reshod by the guy that usually does them this morning. He called me at work and said the guy that watched me ride her in his barn went to the place where the guy that shoes her eats breakfast this morning and told him the whole story. When Hal showed up at his barn a little while later he told him to go get Faith and he would FIX her. (Another 40 mile trip.) He said he didn't know what was going on and he never has time to watch anyone ride before he shoe's them anymore. Hal called me and asked if it was OK with me and I said yes, so he did. He called back when he got through and said he built her 2 front feet. He described what he did, but I will have to see it when I get home. Hal said it looked really good and we would ride after work and see if it helped. He told Hal if she wasn't fixed he was going to make his wife answer the phone when I called him tonight. We'll see. Hal said he wasn't mad because I got someone else to look at her. I just had no clue that he would go and talk to our farrier abt. her. He also said she was a nice, pretty, very flashy horse. Made me feel good.
