FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread! - Thread 12

Posted on 08/07/2007 7:33:14 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

The FreeRepublic Saddle Club - (very out of date) Who's Who *pics*

This is a horse chat thread where we share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share, usually about our horses, sometimes about our dogs, gardens and other stuff we do. :~)

I have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and MissTargets will ping everyone most mornings. Let MissTargets and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list.

So... like the previous threads, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends.

Josie got a fourth and E got a fifth. Tracey sent my some pictures that are much better, just too lazy to load them :)

I love that picture. And it looks so cool and refreshing there.

Is Josie one that has some Arab in her? She sure is pretty.

E is half Arab, Josie is her daughter so 1/4 Arab. However, Sonny is her sire and he always puts that pretty head on his foals. Even Slick, whose head is long is much prettier than his dam.

Picture of E - you can tell she's Prez's daughter.

We always called those Paw Paw's. The flower always looked like a ballerina in a big frilly skirt with her arms raised over her head in a pirouette. They make a soft green oval fruit about the size of an extra large egg. They're kind of hollow and have a green slimy pulp inside. They're really great for throwing at other kids. ;o)

I just Googled Paw Paw and that's not what they are, so I Googled another name I'd heard, May Pop, and THAT'S what it is. Check out this link here for a pic and description.

How could he get his finger stuck in there???

I don't know, but I did it too, so it must be fairly easy to do. I imagine it happened when handing the camera off to someone else when it was on and the lense cover was open.

That’s such a cute picture of Barkley! He’s got it made in the shade.

Well, the only pics I got of our ride were of the horses before we left out. It was too leafy down in the hollows to see much of anything. So here's the pics I have...

Kari's 2yr old filly Sassy...

Her new horse, Trouble. He's got splint boots on because he was whacking himself on the fetlocks. His feet must need tweaking or something for him to be doing that.

Blade...

And the only picture in the woods that you could see anything. Maybe Kari or Carolyn got some that were better...

Pretty new ponies! I understand about the limitations of taking pictures in heavy tree cover :~) You should see all the ones I throw out.

Good morning.

Duchess, the horse looks like he’s doing pretty good to me.
I imagine I’m going to start noticing lots of things down here that doesn’t thrill me:)...like kids running around on the roofs.

Hair: That is a cute picture, I love it when dogs lay like that:) I don’t know what those kids were doing, other then mischief. Our biggest concerns are, them causing roof leaks, tearing up the wiring for the AC’s up there, falling off, breaking the gas pipes lose.... I just talked to the gas company, they are going to come check the pipes, straighten them up, they are crooked, but it is our responsibility to find some way to block them off to keep the kids from climbing them.

Frog, thanks for taking the time to look up the flower. I’m wondering if there is some way to transplant some of them...they sure are pretty. I remember seeing the fruit last year, but I didn’t notice any flowers.

Well, I’m off to look at a job, then go home and wait for the farrier. He was suppose to come last Fri. but had a personal issue so he’s “working me in” today...I hate that, not knowing when he’s coming.

You should schedule the cable guy and the appliance repairman for the same day :~)

I imagine you could pick a few of the fruits and dig out the seeds and dry them and plant them next year. The link said they were edible too. I wonder what they taste like.

As for keeping the kids off the roof, is there any way you could put a gate up to block off the alleyway between the buildings? I’ve seen them do that in the downtown areas around here. The little alleys are just barely wider than a standard door and the nicer gates are made of ornamental iron.

I was wondering about seeds inside the fruit.

I asked Larry before about putting gates across the alley and he said he didn’t think we could because it would be a fire escape lane.

I’d think as long as it could be opened from the inside, kind of like a fire door, that it would be ok. I’d definately ask the fire marshall, coz alleys like that are just prime places for all kinds of mischief.

That is what we saw up at 7 Springs that I was asking Shirley and HaveFaith what they were, you were up on ahead and probably did not hear me.
