My crannies were full of hair!

Night ride sounds cool, I just don’t know how you see! Even with a full moon. I’ve never been on one. Do you bring flashlights?

Yeah, we had flashlights, but you really only use them for very short periods, like if you need something from a saddle bag, something like that, otherwise they ruin your night vision. Your eyes get adapted to the moonlight pretty quick. By the time it was really dark we were out on the gravel roads and they reflect the light pretty well, even in the shady spots.

I won’t say it was like riding in the daytime, but you could see well enough to stay on and enjoy the ride. The horses can see much better than we can in low light so they weren’t having a problem with it at all. We were racking along at a pretty good clip once we got out on the roads. And it’s kinda cool how quick your body adapts to not having the visual cues that it’s used to to maintain your balance. You start to rely on feel much more, so I’d say it gives you a better seat and hands than riding in daylight.

I think everybody really enjoyed it and we’re planning on doing it again on the full moon next month. It’s definitely better than trying to get out and ride in near 100* heat, although I’ll be doing that too. Our St. Jude ride is this coming weekend. Seems like it’s always the hottest flipping weekend of the year too, but it’s for a good cause and we always have a good time, so I’m going.
