Engine trouble forced a single-engine airplane to land atop a nearby storage warehouse just after taking off from Columbia Owens Downtown Airport on Sunday morning.
The plane hit a power line as it landed about 11 a.m., said airport manger Jim Hamilton.
Pilot Larry Ross of Gilbert and owners James and Joanne Keisler of Lexington suffered bruises and cuts, said Columbia Police spokeswoman Sgt. Florence McCants.
Joanne Keisler, 59, broke her arm at the wrist, Hamilton said. Her husband is a pilot but was a passenger on this flight, Hamilton said.
All were treated and released from the hospital by late Sunday afternoon, Hamilton said.
It’s the third time in 10 years that planes trying to land or take off from the downtown airport have landed on top of buildings on Commerce Drive.
Just after takeoff, the four-seat 180 horsepower Cessna 117, commonly known as a Cardinal, lost engine power, Hamilton said. The plane landed on the roof of Boineau’s Moving and Storage Inc. on Commerce Drive, one-third of a mile northwest of the airport.
The plane ripped a hole in the roof of the warehouse and leaked about 30 gallons of fuel inside, said Deputy Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins. Damage to contents was unknown, Jenkins said.
Hamilton said the Cardinal has a reputation as a durable aircraft. He said the plane will likely by removed today by the Keislers’ insurer.
The FAA is investigating.
Sterling Transport driver William Hooper looks at the

a warehouse Sunday on Commerce Drive.
They gotta go for the third wire on those bird farms.
That would be a Cessna 177, not 117.
Aviation ping?
Not to be confused with Goats On The Roof.
"Bring me in, Beer Barrel...."
"Wheels down, flaps down, hook down, all down."
I’d love to see the expression on the face of the insurance adjuster of the warehouse. “Your filing a claim for damage from WHAT?!”
Another clueless provincial twit.
What do I care what happened in Holland today?

What do I care what happened in Holland today?
What a great movie that was.
The adjusters may be getting used to it, this is the third time this has happened at the same airport.
I'm not sure what you mean. Columbia Owens Downtown Airport is in Columbia, South Carolina.
