Something I forgot to mention is to look up the studies done by Billinghurst, Schultze and Pitcairn. Dr. Billinghurst was, I believe, the first to do studies on wild dogs in Australia. When left to their own devises, the wild dog will eat the stomach contents first (this can be duplicated by the slightly cooked vegetables or tripe, which can be ordered on-line or bought in quality dog food stores), then the rest of the animal.

Interesting comment about the Australian dogs eating the stomach contents first. My hound caught a wild rabbit in our yard and ate the entire stomach and lower intestinal track. She was the sickest dog I have ever seen. She threw up 8 huge pile of “barf” and then laid around and hardly moved for 24 hours. She will do it again when she gets the chance I’m sure.

I always supposed that was because animals hunt when they're hungry & the soft underbelly is the easiest/ fastest part of the animal to get at.
