Chris Pine Confirmed as the New James T. Kirk
Trekweb ^ | 10/15/07

Actor Chris Pine is definitely in to play the new James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams new Star Trek movie, reports /Film and Trek Movie Report. Pine has dropped out of the Joe Carnahan-directed "White Jazz," which was apparently the final thing standing in his way of saying yes to Abrams and Star Trek.

On his blog, Carnahan said, "The young man playing Junior Stemmons has opted to 'go where no man has gone before' and thus, had to bow out of WHITE JAZZ. I've been talking to him this past week and knew how tough the decision had to be for him. I don't envy ever being in that spot but I gave him my full support, even if it meant he didn't do JAZZ. I get it. You don't get opportunities like that often and I told him as long as he could control as much of that process as possible and not get sucked into doing lesser sequels as a result of taking this gig, then good luck and God bless."

Carnahan has promised a role to Pine in Killing Pablo, his Pablo Escobar biopic which is set to go into production June 2008.

There are still no indications that William Shatner has been asked to play the older Captain James T. Kirk again in Abrams movie.

Never heard of him. That's a good thing in this case. Here's his pic:

He certainly looks the part.

I just watched “Heroes” and the guy who plays Sylar, the bad guy, has been chosen to play Spock. That should be very interesting. He’s been excellent on “Heroes.”

ROTFLMAO! Don’t you think you could have found a more representative picture???

I have to admit...since watching “Galaxy Quest” I cannot look at a Star Trek episode the same!

I love Heroes, except Heroes fans who see the movie are still gonna be thinking ‘aah, it’s Sylar! Run away!’ just like the Star Trek fans who watch Heroes refer Hiro’s dad as ‘Sulu’... it’s cool how the two are connected.

And “Uhura” is now on “Heroes” as well as the guy who played “Malcolm” (the tactical officer) on the last Trek series “Enterprise” who was in a couple of episodes this season. Peter Petrelli nearly put him through a wall. Heheh! Not to mention the fact that Hiro and Ando are both major Trekkies. I notice these things. It’s sad, I know.

I have the same problem with "Lord of the Rings..." I keep expecting to hear the words "Mr. Anderson" coming from Elrond!

John Cho from “American Pie” and “Harold and Kumar” has also been cast as Sulu.

Hey, if I could get used to Checkov on Babylon 5 or Kor playing Baltar or Mikkos Cassidine, I can get used to anything.

LOVED Simon Pegg in the film “Hot Fuzz.” Great film if you like dark, warped humor (my parents HATED it, I LOVED it).

Just looked at his film history on IMDb and am pretty sure I’ve never seen anything he’s in.
