BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- With a second to spare, LSU kept it's national championship hopes alive and well.
Matt Flynn threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Byrd with 1 second left to lift fifth-ranked LSU to a 30-24 victory over No. 18 Auburn on Saturday night.
A WALKOFF TOUGHDOWN

And this is the FINALE:
Les Miles had converted five fourth downs in a dramatic 28-24 victory over Florida the last time LSU was at home. This time, he let Flynn take one last shot at the end zone with the clock winding down when the safer play would have been to set up for a potential game-winning field goal.
LSU had a timeout left, but the Tigers cut it awfully close on their final play.
Miles said those calls come from being confident in his players, who had come back from a 17-7 halftime deficit.
"They showed great character and great resolve and want - the way they played in the second half," Miles said.
The Broadcasters thought that Miles had lost track of the clock and he really did not have time left to call a timeout and kick a field goal if the pass were to fail.
There was one second left so they had to kick off. Auburn tried the rugby play, but teams have gotten better at defending it.
Why did the announcer keep insisting that if the pass had been incomplete, time would have run out? The ball was caught with about 4 seconds left, and the clock stopped at 1. If it had gone over his head, presumably it would have stopped with 1 or 2 seconds, and they could have attempted a field goal. Of course, it COULD have run out! Cf. The “subjunc-TV” in Douglas Hofstadter’s GEB - “Let’s see how that play would have looked if space were 8-dimensional.”
Good game refs.
They convinced me ....
Best game I saw all day.

This finish, and that idiot Blanco soundly thrashed by Jindal in the Governor’s race. GREAT day for Louisiana!
Auburn beat LSU. Too bad they couldn’t beat the refs. Two blown calls that led directly to two LSU scores.
Blanco did not run.
Coach thought he had 16 seconds when he did that. He had 7.
That was a hell of a game, and I can’t explain the confusion. WOW
I understand your point. I don’t think the Patriots could have beat Alabama at Tuscaloosa today. :^)
[SARCASM]Yeah, because Auburn's never gotten ANY questionable calls against LSU in the past...[/SARCASM]
one word about LSU
That was the same crew of officials that called the LSU - Auburn game last year and handed it to Auburn. I think they need to be replaced. The two in LSU’s favor that I saw could have been overcome by LSU, but we’ll never know. How did they miss the blatant crack-back block while looking at it? Taking the best defensive player in the game out is not as easily overcome.

fixed it for you...
oh yeah, and Florida...
Definitely not him.
The last drive first down had to be just about the worst call I’ve ever seen. The guy dropped at least a yard from the first down but the ref gave him the bounce.
Yeah, that was a horrible spot. Not sure why Auburn didn't throw the challenge flag, it would've been 4th down for LSU.
That happened on third down. Considering it was just a few inches short, I think LSU would have converted on fourth down. Apparently the Auburn coaching staff didn't think it was worth wasting a challenge to contest the ruling.
Tuberville is an idiot. Auburn had the momentun, had just scored a TD, taken the lead 24-23 - and they hand them field position with a little dinky squib kick-off. Kick the ball deep! Don’t hand it over to them needing only a FG close to midfield! Worst..... kick..... ever. I couldn’t believe it.
It was a ballsy call by LSU to throw that ball into the EZ - they only needed a FG. But the college kicking game can be a crapshoot.....oh well, they got lucky
It would of cost time however since the first down chains wouldn’t of been moved.
