Either will rob my PS3 of infrequent Folding@Home time but which one would you prefer and why?
I'm leaning toward Rock Band due to multi-instrument co-op play as well as co-op over the internet. Backward compatibility isn't a concern as I don't own the previous 2.5 games. Each playlist has a few awful songs but both are pretty good. The downloadable content for each is still mostly a mystery so it's not really a factor to me.
Real guitar is out of the question due to my short stubby fingers.
forget the games and go outside.
save the money for ammo.
That’s an entirely different discussion. I’m on sabbatical for the month of December and have enough ammo loaded up to make a reporter mess their pants.
But I digress....
I am completely ignorant of this genre. Is there any educational benefit to these? If I practices Guitar Hero diligently for a year, could I do anything with an actual guitar, or is this just a twitch game?
I’m a guitar player, have been for 37 of my 49 years. Neither game will assist in actually learning how to play the non-virtual instrument.
I think knowing how to play the guitar may actually be a hindrance. My son has the game and plays it well, in actuality, he is a trumpet player. I spent 15 minutes with it and was bored to tears.
I think it was made for air guitar players only, as all the guitar players I know would prefer to pick up the real thing.
Guitar Hero is one of the best party games ever made for a gaming system. Nothing like having twenty people taking turns playing against each other while everyone else laughs or sings along.
Haven’t played GH3 or Rock Band yet but we’ve got GH2 and every time we have a party it pays for itself.
But no, it won’t help with learning to play guitar or anything about music except perhaps generally improve your rythm.
Buy a real guitar with a shorter scale length. Even a 3/4 size guitar might work for you. Don’t fall for the air guitar hoax! (one of the stupidest cultural trends I’ve ever seen, BTW...)
I vote: Project Gotham Racing III.
It doesn’t seem to be the length, it’s the distance between the strings. I can’t press just one.
Is there a guitar design that mitigates this?
Then start with a nylon string classical guitar - the string spacing is considerably wider and the softer nylon strings easier to fret. Once you get used to playing that it will be easier to play other guitars.
Go with Rock Band. Everyone that I’ve spoken with who’s played the game has raved about the drum kit.
Too bad. The real thing has endless possiblities anyway. Seemed like a good idea though.
Thank you for the advice. I’m going to drop by a music store and check it out.
