I was under the impression the old Cylons did not appear in the current series.

They have not, a new metal version, but the primary bad guys have been 7 human forms, that can regenerate, and there are many copies of them. Turns out there are 12 human type cylons, and 5 of them are people that we though were good guys. They have not revealed the last one, and there is much speculation as to who the last cylon is, the final mystery.
