I second a Deli tour.

When Jet Blue had great deals from Chicago, I sent my wife and her dad to EAT. They had a great time.

And you must have deli food (a jewish delicatessen is best).
LOL - what other kind of deli is there? The delicatessen was a late 19th century Jewish "invention" in the Lower East Side neighborhood known as "Kleindeutchland" (little Germany).
My German ancestors lived there and my Irish ancestors were nearby, just south of E. Houston.

Wow, I just googled it, and it looks like a lot of fun. I’m hopefully going to NYC over break this year (after plans to go to DC or Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral didn’t work out) and now I’m happy that I can still visit a place with the phrase ‘space museum’ in it!

I forgot i was going to post some pictures from my trip. Thanks for getting back to me on it.

New York was great. I was very impressed with how the city functions, its cleanliness, the history, the subway, everything.

The first day (Sunday) the wife and I went to the Natural History Museum and strolled through Central Park ending the day eating at a nice little pub.

Monday I went to the parade and learned the subways. I went to a pub called McSoreleys. It was awesome and I partied a bit with the locals. That night we ordered pizza.

Tuesday I did ground zero and St. Pauls. I took the Path to Hoboken just to say I did it. I explored all day and that night the wife and I went to a really nice Italian place in Little Italy.

Wednesday I went to Wall Street and down to the piers. I went to Battery Park, St Patricks and Rockefeller Center. I also went to Brooklyn in search of a steak house called Peter Lugers but couldn't find it. That evening we went to Rosie O'Grady's in Times Square and strolled around.

Anyways I really liked New York, its heads and shoulders above my last trip to San Fransisco. Nice city and I will try to figure out how to post some pics on line and then to FR.

We visited 3 years ago at Christmas time. Everything was good with the exception of the Grayline tour guide. The guy was a big lib and his comments on the tour were all political. We just wanted him to shut up and show the tourists the city. Anyway he did not get a tip. Michael Moron would be considered a conservative next to the idiot Grayline Tour bus guide.

The city was clean, but I hate seeing all of the garbage bags put out on the sidewalks for trash pick up.

That was different (the trash) but how else could it be done. I actually I thought the city functioned quite well even though its very different from where I come from. I can't imagine the low days before Rudy, the city must have been a nightmare, but I was very impressed.

I didn't take any tours although I wish I would have.

I noticed the beggars in NY were actually polite. In SF they scream in your face and threaten you.

I see no one’s answered you about the W Hotel, so I’ll try. I’ve never stayed at the one in NYC, but every W Hotel I’ve been at has been very nice. I’m sure there’s nothing to worry about.

What kind of race is the Sylvania 300? My husband works in the racing industry, but mostly F1 and Champ/IRL. We usually go to a lot of Champ car races, but I guess that will be a thing of the past soon.

I'm glad you had a good trip. I'm from NYC and after just completing a six month family genealogy project I'm really looking forward to my next visit.
I discovered both my Irish and German ancestors immigrated in the mid 1800s to the Lower East Side and lived within 6-8 blocks of each other.
I'm sure my Irish gg-grandfather had a pint (or two) at Mcsorley's and I'll be sure to do the same in his honor. That you were there on St. Patrick's Day had to be quite "stimulating."

Thanks, CC.

We have stayed at the “W” Hotel in Seattle and loved it.

The Sylvania 300 is a NASCAR race. It’ll be the first race of the “chase” and it’s on September 14th. It’ll be in Loudon, New Hampshire. The track is an oval, a little over a mile in length and the seating is for 95K. It’s a hot ticket to get and we plan on spending several days in Boston, New York and then Washington, D.C.

Oh cool. I don’t know much about NASCAR, but we went to the California 500 or something in Fontana. The thing I remember most is that is was 108 degrees. Ouch.

Well one thing I learned immediately was you order either light or dark, thats it. You order them by the fours (four light/four dark). That'll cost ya 10 bucks.

I squeezed through to the bar, observed the locals ordering and asked the bartender for four lights. He asked gruffly "Is that for two people or four?"

I responded "One" and he shook his head and said "Okay". The guy next to me informed me that if you order one you get four.

Thanks. Like baseball, you have to know the "ground rules" before starting the game.
