A lot of folks are amazed that ‘I Saw The Light’ was written by a person considered in his day to be one of the most raucous and rowdy honky-tonkers of all time, Hank Sr.

You'd be surprised to know, even today, how many C&W singers have a granddad who was a Holiness preacher. Many of them have strong Bible roots.

Having retired from radio broadcasting a long time ago, I can still recall how it used to be considered 'standard recording behavior' for ANY country artist recording an album to include at least one gospel or gospel-flavored song on the release, I can't say that Acuff-Rose came up with the practice, but I know that they seemed to adhere to it pretty consistently.

For a real heartwarming experience, locate a copy of Ricky Skaggs covering Bill Monroe's classic 'Mother's Not Dead, She's Only Sleeping', if it doesn't move you, there's nothing left to move ;)
