Did anyone see the Homerun Derby at Yankee Stadium last night? As a Mets fan I usually only watch National League teams, so I had only heard about Josh Hamilton's story and haven't really seen him in action. This guy is a beast though. I have never seen a display of power like the one he put on last night. And just think that he did it, and is in the middle of this incredible season he is having, after missing 3 full years and practically no time in the minors. Unbelieveable. The real life version of The Natural.
I didn’t think the calls were outrageous (no different than regular league play), and I definitley think that Navarro was out. It looked to me like Martin blocked his left foot and he tagged his top leg on the shin because he couldn’t get the bottom leg to the plate.
C’monnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Stick with us!
Aaauuugggh! Unbelievable game!
I wish McCarver would rest his gums for a moment or two.
I loved McCarver when he was a broadcaster with the Mets. I actually learned to look at things I never thought of before listening to him. He knows the game, that’s for sure. In the past 10 years he’s fallen in love with his own voice.
OK...gotta go...I have to get up for work in four hours....YIKES!! Luckily I work at home, but lil’freeper will make sure I get up. After she leaves for work I can catch a few more “winks”.
If you must!
WOW. K’d at the bottom of the 13th! Russell Martin is fantastic (yes, I’m saying something god about a Dodger! :-) )
Now, come on. Lincecum has to be recovered from his food poisoning by now. God, he’s good. What a shame he couldn’t play. I was really looking forward to that. I know he’ll be in more All-Star games but in an interview, he was appreciative of the history of Yankee Stadium.
The Yankee Stadium ghosts wanted extra innings , .. this is too funny
Those were Tim’s best years. I lived in CT when he broadcast for the Mets - as a Mets fan. You’re right - once he went national, he absolutely fell in love with the sound of his voice.
But he knows what he’s talking about! That tip about the infielder’s (2B or SS?) glove coming up from the short hop, not giving him enough time to tag the runner out - good stuff.
Mets fan myself, and you’ve put it exactly right.
BTW, I’ve got the MLB site open in another window and they have a guy live-blogging the game. He says the press box is LOVING this game.
Oh, we could talk Mets ball for a while! I showed my son bauerpauer my tape of Game 6 of the 86 Series as a way of showing him that it really AIN’T over till it’s ALL over. He was amazed (being in fourth grade at the time). I just told him about Game 6 of the NL playoffs against the Astros. I sat in my car for a couple of hours after the 9th came and went, waiting to pay a store bill. Wouldn’t leave till it was over. I had San Franciscans coming up to me in the car, asking about the game.
My summers growing up were spent with Lindsey Nelson on the radio.
I’ll bet! This is a great game. I want Uggla to lean into one, and then steal three bases.
Have a link for the blog?
Now, wouldn’t you love to see Lincecum stride in about now to pitch bottom 15?
Ahhhhhhhhhh, Lindsey. Nice jackets. Was never much of a Bob Murphy fan though.
And since we were speaking of Tim before, I always thought he made Ralph Kiner a better announcer when they started working together, although Ralph was pretty good before, but he just started to sound bored until Timmy.
Man on man what a ballgame!
You ever use the Gameday feature? Pretty cool. They’ve improved it this year.
I’m using low bandwidth, so I don’t think the gameday feature would work so well.
hope this game just keeps on going...
Oh, the WD Game 6? Amazing. I FF’d a little past the “routine” part of the game, and then started pausing it, asking him what he thought would happen. You can imagine the look on his face once Mookie jackknifed out of the way!
I think it’s time to watch it again, now that he’s a bit older. I’m sure he’ll pick up that Bob Stanley didn’t cover first in time.
Where did you get the DVD? I still have the original video. I skipped work that night to watch - glad I did!
You’re right about Tim making Kiner better. I liked Bob Murphy - he was part of my soundtrack and I didn’t listen that closely for many years. Oh! Nelson’s jackets! WOW.
