Oh, and Steve had a stalker from when he worked in a camp for disabled people 30 some odd years ago...one of the campers is obsessed with him and I blocked her from me and Steve and also Matt. As far as she can tell, we don't even exist on facebook.

Well, the problem is, I think, I only have one main email address I use for everything... work, family, everything.

And yeah - that’s probably how they had me listed. I skipped befriending anyone so far for EVERYONE, or searching my own email account, because I’m not sure yet how I’m going to handle it.

So don’t take it personally... I really don’t want to mix my work and politics.

Maybe it’s because FB knows that everyone (except Hair) wants to be my friend.

You’re not obligated to accept anyone’s request. That’s unwritten FB etiquette. (or it’s just my rule that I made up, but it works)

I haven’t connected with some people from our old church because of their ties to people I work with.

So do they know that you can see them?

People keep appearing there (mostly hh’rs) Do they know that I know they’re there? Do they already know I signed up?

If I click their profile, do they know I’ve been there?

So far, I just don’t want to touch anything, because of all the work people there.

They can know that you’re on FB, but you can hide any of the rest of your info. Mark your info private and only your friends can see it.

But, if you post on my wall, all of my friends can see that.

My suggestion is that you let your hubbit wander around FB first and you can judge from his experience.

If it makes you uncomfortable, then don’t do it. At the same time, there’s no reason you ever need to mention politics over there.

It’s not even really mentioning politics that bothers me, it’s giving work people too many rabbit trails to my personal life, and forum people too many rabbit trails to my work and ID.

I’ve kept those very separate and there’s something that really bothers me about my forum friends, inlaws, and my boss, and major and minor coworkers all being there.

And I’m supposed to post info with all those people in mind?

I know what you mean. I just looked up a friend of mine from long ago and found him, but in his friends list were some people I haven’t talked to for years, and I’d like to keep it that way.

It’s all what you make it. You can post as much, or as little as you like.

OK, but if I make all these people friends, then can they see my other friends? Like darkangel just said... I mean... two clicks and someone I tick off on the forum knows my boss and where I work.

Or alternately, two clicks and my boss learns I run a forum and what I do all day.

Heh heh...I looked up an ex-boyfriend’s profile and saw his wife’s profile picture in his list of friends. She hasn’t aged well and I got a lot of personal satisfaction from that.

LOL!

I know, I’m terrible. You don’t need to tell me. I peer in the mirror all the time and say to myself “You’re TERRIBLE!” and just laugh and laugh.

;-)

Your friends can see your friend list.

But your friends can’t see the info from your ~other~ friends. Meaning that if I go to your friends list and click on someone I’m not a friend with, I can’t see their profile unless they’ve made it public or unless I’m also their friend.

I can see what your friends post on your wall. But I still can’t see their profile.

Does that make sense?

SO how do people ‘keep up’ with groups like ours on facebook? Are there conversations taking place somewhere, or do you have to click each person to find out what they’re doing?

I peer in the mirror all the time and say to myself “You’re TERRIBLE!” and just laugh and laugh.

Heh, yeah, you bad!

My 40th high school reunion is in 2011, and I know I'm not going to recognize more than a couple of people. We'll all have to wear nametags with letter 2" high so folks can read them without their glasses!

I've found two friends on FB who I haven't seen since high school, so that's fun. And a gal who I was in the all girls choir with in high school, but who was in the class ahead of me, showed up on my college alumni page last year, and I contacted her. She's on FB now, too.

When I realized I could, I turned off the News Feed for most of my new friends, and I only check FB two or three times a day. I haven't really gotten the hang of it, yet.

It’s not quite the same. You can set up groups and do posts there, but I haven’t really done any conversations like that. It’s usually a post on someone’s wall that starts a conversation.
