Well darn! I used to have a 1972 Guinness Book of World Records that stated the largest-ever freshwater fish were giant catfish over 1,000 lbs fished out of the St. Lawrence back in the day.
I’m not buying it.
Jeremy Wade gives great video of awesome critters but he’s never come up with convincing evidence of actual man-eating.
If there is an actual “river-monster” that eats people it would almost certainly be the Bull Shark, which is a shallow-water specialist that eats anything and everything and has the ability to tolerate fresh and brackish water.
It has been known to swim hundreds of miles up the great rivers of the world throughout the temperate and tropical latitudes.
