P-E Obama pledges national security will be front and center for his administration.
Several top GOP Senators announce their opposition to an auto industry bailout.
Despite calmer weather today in s. California, more residents are evacuated.
Retailers brace themselves for a weaker than usual Christmas sale season. I think we can all appreciate our wallets and pocketbooks aren't exactly going to be flying open...
With FR's recent downs I certainly don't want to give any hackers a reason to attack us.
Please understand.
BTW, the dress...bwahahhaha!
Syrup?
I found some pecan syrup at Big Lots. It has pieces of pecan floating at the top of the bottle.
We are waiting for Thanksgiving weekend to get off Atkins before we try it.
I can't wait.
The Obama administration is looking more and more like the Mad Hatter's tea party..............
Hey, something cool just happened: I met a student at the university, a young man, whose girlfriend is deploying the same time as Ev.......she is also in the National Guard, and is also a medic!!!
He was so excited to know there is someone here he can talk to who will understand what she will be going through, and what he will be going through as he misses her and worries about her.
His name is Justin, and his girl's name is Angie; so I'm going to go ahead and ask the prayer warriors to add her to your prayer lists.
I asked him what his name was and he told me, and then he said "You're Mary, right? Everybody knows you!" I said, yes, they do, for good or bad.;-)
Another cool thing: there is a group on campus called Vets for Vets, and they are collecting items to be put into care packages for Christmas, for deployed troops. Of course I will contribute, and I'm thrilled to find such a group exists on this (somewhat liberal) campus!
Day 2 of Minnesota US Senate Recount Starts With Narrowing Margin (Coleman +174)
Why don't they ever find republican votes?
rhetorical question...
Vets for Vets....wonderful!
Adding Angie and Justin to my prayer list.
Good Morning/Afternoon everyone. FR was busy earlier so will send my greetings now.
It’s beautiful today in central Texas. kassie, hopefully everything is going according to plan.
prairiebreeze, I’ve been wondering the same thing about the MN recount. Seems whenever a dem is involved, somehow they find only dem votes. And how in the world can those voting machines have mistakes in them, unless the mistakes were built into the program.
Probably time to review the bidding...
During the campaign, the Obamination promised us "change we need".
During the campaign, the Obamination said that the days of the well-heeled lobbyist were over, that the people were going to matter.
During the campaign, the Obamination said that ethics were going to matter in his Administration.
During the campaign, the Obaminiation said that "business as usual" was not going to continue.
During the campaign, the Obamination said that Washington insiders were not going to be part of the governance team.
Ok, it's been 16 days since the election, and the Obamination has made many selections for this team, or has indicated some folks are on the "short list" for particular jobs.
How'd they do?
HEALTH - Former Senator Tom Daschle as Secretary of HHS. Primary qualifications for the job - none. Washington insider - the poster child (indeed, after he was defeated by John Thune for his Senate seat, did he go home? no--he stayed in Washington!). Lobbyist connections - once removed (he works for the lobbying firm of Alston & Bird, whose clients include CVS Caremark, Abbott Laboratories, HealthSouth, among others). Ethics - questionable (see lobbying connection). Business as usual - yes. Change we need - Daschle says that Hitlery took too long and provided too much detail on her plan (in fact, the Obamination's pick for Chief of Staff says the health plan to be proposed will be "long and deep"--single payer? Hillerycare?) Cronyism factor - moderately high. Bipartisanship factor--barely moves the meter.
STATE - The Wicked Witch of the North (New York). Primary qualifications for the job - on Senate Armed Services Committee, has access to data on foreign countries (so, some). Washington insider - "is there anywhere outside Washington?". Lobbyist connections - starts and ends with UOx42 - no matter how much he says he won't. Ethics - are you kidding? (Rose Law Firm billing records, Vince Foster, health care task force - just for starters.) Business as usual - no (but you won't like the change--see next). Change we need - Hah! (Get ready for the United States to be the laughingstock around the world!) Cronyism factor - moderately high. Bipartisanship factor--does it get any lower?
JUSTICE - Eric Holder for AG. Primary qualifications for the job - lawyer, understands how things work in Washington. Washington insider - yes (was Deputy AG under UOx42). Lobbyist connections - none known. Ethics - Marc Rich pardon point person (enough said). Business as usual - yes (but you won't like the change--see next). Change we need - Not hardly (unless you call granting last minute repreives to fellons without their feeling the least amount of remorse "change we need") Cronyism factor - moderate. Bipartisanship factor--low.
CHIEF OF STAFF - Rahm Emanuel. Primary qualifications for the job - none. Washington insider - is Congressman representing the Chicago area. Lobbyist connections - how can you be a Congressman, in all seriousness, without having any? Ethics - Considered one of the most liberal members of the House of Representatives, veteran of UOx42 White House, so "ethics, who needs those?" is likely the watch word (look for the return of "is" here). Business as usual - yes. Change we need - No. Cronyism factor - off the chart. Bipartisanship factor--only Hitlery is lower.
HOMELAND SECURITY - Janet Napolitano. Primary qualifications for the job - state adjoins a foreign country. Washington insider - no. Lobbyist connections - unknown? Ethics - Unknown. Business as usual - unknown. Change we need - unknown. Cronyism factor - unknwon. Bipartisanship factor--unknown. (In fact - this is, so far, the "stealth" appointment for the Cabinet in one of the most critical positions considering the state of war we are in--BIG PROBLEM!)
COMMERCE - Penny Pritzkero. Primary qualifications for the job - runs a business. Washington insider - no. Lobbyist connections - very likely high. Ethics - Unknown. Business as usual - yes. Change we need - no. Cronyism factor - extreme (she's from Chicago!). Bipartisanship factor--unknown.
In short - an insiders paradies with questionable ethics guiding America toward change that is likley not what is needed to address our problems.
FRAKEN: "We must count all the ballots!
Yes, an actual quote!
Plymouth, MN. Eight of 24 precincts recounted so far here. ONE ballot has been challenged so far. The election board says the ballot in question is clearly a vote for Coleman.
Franken says that it isn't and has requested a second opinion from the state.
Here's the ballot:
HOMELAND SECURITY - Janet Napolitano. Primary qualifications for the job - state adjoins a foreign country. Washington insider - yes (correction from "no" - was US Attorney in Phoenix under UOx42--best know for representing Anita Hill [remember her?]). Lobbyist connections - unknown? Ethics - low (Anita Hill...). Business as usual - yes (because, aparenttly, her only qualification is that she can see Mexico from some parts of her state). Change we need - probably not. Cronyism factor - moderate. Bipartisanship factor--rather high poke in the eye factor.
We get confirmation that Daschle is not a lobbyist, he is just a "powerful Washington lawyer who provides strategic advice to major pharmaceutical and health care companies and sits on the board of a major clinic." (Newsmax)
Glad we cleared that up! I feel better now.
Thank you!
Parenthetically, I grew up 4 miles east of Plymouth MN, in Golden Valley (a suburb of Mpls.)
Good analyses of all of these “stellar” candidates. I’d laugh if this weren’t all so deadly serious.
Oh yeah! Much better!
Whoa!! She's beggin' for a smiley face!! I'll help her.
:-)
She looks like she may need a dose of Ex-Lax.
On the other hand, wonder how many others will take their names out of the hat due to “vetting” issues???
