You mentioned you felt it was disgraceful for OU to run up the score with 30 seconds left, et al.
A series of running plays, (when passing had been more successful) instead of running a 2 minute offense and passing for a touchdown isn’t running up the score. I guess you would expect them to just down the ball on each possession? But then I recall that Texas was wanting OU to win but by a small margin.
You said it was disgraceful for OU to be chosen when beaten by Texas. Using that logic then it would be disgraceful for Texas to be chosen when beaten by Texas Tech. Double bladed sword here.
You forget it was a three way tie. Texas Tech beat Texas and had as good a claim to be there as Texas. Other factors had to be considered.
Disgraceful to me is the politicking that was done to get the 45-35 to be the ONLY factor considered. But that is my perspective.
Final point. The rankings (while not perfect)identify who is best at the time the polls are taken -not 4 weeks before - all factors considered with emotions out.
With 2 minutes to go.. I agree.
But, with 30 seconds to go, and no timeout being called, taking a knee would have been the appropriate thing to do. Had OSU called a timeout, Hell yes... step back and throw it to the end zone.... but, they weren't. They'd conceded the game.
It's the same thing Urban Meyer did against Miami. I guess, the case can be made that "the system" forces such class-less pay... because, hey! Look! It worked. People are on here crowing about a "20-point victory".
But, I still think it is exceedingly poor sportsmanship.
