Did the fuse detonate as a result of the acceleration shock, ie, was the round on its way out of the tube when it went off?

Was this a M107 SPG?

The detonated about 5 or so feet from the muzzle due to a problem with the fuse, although I do not know exactly what it was. Peeled it back just like what was shown here. We thought the crew were all dead, but the Lord was with them that night. I have found other instances of the same thing happening with similar circumstances. Yes, this as a M107, although we changed out tubes frequently going from 8 in (M110) to 175 mm (M107) and back.

If you don’t mind my pestering you with another question — why the tube changeout? I understand they were two completely different rounds; what did the 8” do that the 175 couldn’t and vice versa?
