Good Lord. Great example for the kids---moral erosion right before our eyes...
People will love him even more for that photo. People will say, “Look at him! He’s the personification of ‘cool’...”
Great, now I’m going to have that “Theme to Shaft” song by Isaac Hayes running through my head the rest of the day.
Hard to tell, but I never held a cigarette that way. Maybe it was cheap stuff and he had to pack it thicker? Not that I ever indulged, er, um, inhaled, well, um, that is to say...anyway. Yeah, could be a Kool...
Why does it show guts?
The picture is part of the Time “Person of the Year” issue.
They’re touting it as part of Baraq’s coolness and relevance.

It looks exactly like a cigarette to me.
That’s a joint? where was our side with this during the election? Oh yea, we had McCain taking the ‘high’ road.

He was 20 at the time the photos were taken and was mugging for the camera as college freshman sometimes do..... was he thinking of running for Pres and therefore needing to be a “good role model” at the time? Who knows.
None of us have any potentially embarrassing photos that were taken in our youth. Just ask Dr Laura. Or videos either... as Pres Bush can confirm.

Im just wondering whats the big deal if Obama smoked herb in college, who doesn’t?! The real question I ask myself, is why he has pictures of himself smoking a joint?
That’s a cigarette. It’s burning evenly. If it was a joint, the burn line wouldn’t be so uniform.
That’s a cigarette, not a joint. One of the other photos also has him holding the ciggie.. I think you might mistake it as a join from the way he’s holding it.
I gotta weigh in on the side of the cigarette folks. I roll my own and very few of them look as good as the “whatever” in the picture.
Take another look. Who holds a ciragette between his thumb and forefinger and tokes that way? Look at the head, that ash is isn't nearly as smooth as a cigarette head is, and the shaft appears to be crooked, self rolled. It's a joint, my friend.
Yeah, and do you hold your cigarette between your thumb and forefinger, with your other three fingers in the air? Ha.
