“Consumers Reports have been picking Krogers 8 OClock coffee for 25 years.”
Were these taste tests done on black coffee, or did they allow the testers to add cream and sugar? There is a big difference between they way you make coffee to be drunk black, and the way you make it otherwise.
The fact is most people don’t like the taste of coffee anyway. Take this test: do you drink your cofee black? If the answer is no, then you don’t like the taste of cofee. The ONLY reason to add sugar or cream to cofee is to cover its natural taste.
The reason most people’s coffee tastes like crap is it is ground too fine. This allows you to make coffee quickly, but it also sucks every bit of bitterness out of the bean and into your cup. If you want a smoother cup of coffee use a coarser grind and a french press. The coarser the grind, the less bitter the coffee will be.
Isn’t 8 O’clock the brand a whole bean that you grind yourself? I imagine that means the grind is much coarser than the pre-ground coffee (which is almost a powder.) Coarser grind = better tasking coffee. That’s all you need to know about why it keeps winning.
