Modern sniper fire is most always “silent” because for shots over 500 meters, the bullet always gets there before the sound does.
The greatest risk to the shooting team is moving too quickly, allowing the enemy to locate your position by movement. Unless the distance is safely adequate.
Then there is the target of opportunity option, keep on tagging enemy targets if they are dumb enough to stay out in the open. And in the Taliban’s case, they make a case for rich statistical achievement.
