Pleides are farther north and pretty unmistakeable on a clear night.
I’ll have to look for them the next opportunity. It really surprised me that we could see the Big Dipper. We even can see the Little Dipper some nights and at the right time, a hint of the North Star (since it isn’t directly exactly about the pole). Perhaps a little farther south and those wouldn’t be visible to us, I’m not sure. It took me a little while to get oriented to the sky here. I was expecting some things but most of what was on the horizon in Alabama is in the middle of the sky here.
