And If I Did Not Make Mistakes
Katie Paton
Scottish Poet

And if is did not make mistakes
And give too brief a thought to heavy questions
And too much time to little matter;
Or if I always knew which road to travel
Where every step would lead me into daylight
And if each face that turned to watch me pass
Was broken by a smile;
Or if whenever I should choose to lay my heart
Bare upon the sun-warmed grass,
It always was returned with tender touches
And carried by a song;
And if my heaviest burden were only to be
A breeze upon my back, and a blossom in my hair,
And my brow was never crossed with lines of pain;
If all this endless summer were my lot
And winter’s fury never beat me back,
Then I never would have seen the stormy nights
Through which I’ve struggled, fought and won;
I never would have known the joy of needed comfort given,
The essence of a friend.

Good Night Everyone!

Good evening lovely ladies.

I'm feeling a bit down. Pardon me for the ping, but I was thinking of a special FRiend.

Who is the keeper of the ping list? I haven't updated it in years.

The thread title is still on my mind. America, God bless her, is not going in the right direction. Methinks we are heading for the abyss. Unfortunately, all of my predictions on this forum have come true. For all to see, documented in so many electrons on Jim Rob's hard drives.

Maybe all I need is to hit the rack. Reveille comes early...

Got to buy a soldier a beer at 10:40 am in Salt Lake City during my layover this morning. She is a Reservist, and was just getting back from the sand box.

Army E-4. Same age as my kids, so the TSgt/Dad in me came out and we spent a great hour swapping lies and bitching about the same stuff that Hadrian's army complained about.

When I got up to leave, I thanked her for her service, and may have been a little loud, but the old biddies in the corner gave me an AMEN! Along with the rest of the crowd in the place.

trip goes smoother.

They never do. And it doesn't matter. Once upon a time, I would have ruined my day, and probably the day for a lot of other people because things didn't go 'perfectly', or even nominal. Too old to get that upset about any normal problems these days.

It's all a great adventure, and I met Manny the soldier, and Pa, the Korean taxi driver, with his painted rock with the 10 Commandments and his Korean Bible in the car. I also met Al, one of the engineers here that's helping me with my tasking, he's a pretty cool guy.

So, I ended the day with more blessings than worries. And for that, I am grateful.

Good evening Guy. You're right, if we've got a third of the populace.

Don't you owe me a six pack of Heineken?

Jem, here’s a rather long excerpt from the meeting held in Birmingham last night by Ultra Sonic 007: “So now, we had a grand total of 10 people. And I was digging that!

Sitting all at one table, we engaged in casual conversation, eating some appetizers and then our main course. Talking about what we ate...well, that’s not the point. It provided the vehicle for all SORTS of discussions. A brief summary follows:

The tea parties, the meeting hosted at the Madison Cracker Barrel by Southron Patriot, the media and their role in advancing liberalism, the corruption of politicians, the lack of statesmen in Washington, sports-related tales, local Alabama politics (Shelby...but a lot of it regarding potential challengers to Arthur Davis in the heavily gerrymandered 7th Congressional District), the Rick and Bubba Show, how history repeats itself, the strangeness of the withdrawal of $550 BILLION over two hours from the banking institutions late last year, our jobs and educational background, the banking and financial industry and its current state, home-schooling, the witty and sarcastic humor of FReepers, ideas for the next meetings, how to get wider visibility...and I’m sure there’s a couple of things I’ve already forgotten.

I was on one half of the table for most of the evening, talking mostly with RatRipper, LadyPilgrim, and her descendants. The other half of the table consisted of BudgieRamone, his wife, RatRipper’s brother, del4hope, and her husband (del4hope and BudgieRamone will have to fill us in on details regarding your half of the table).

All in all, I personally thought it was a blast. We got to actually meet face-to-face, got to discuss political/nonpolitical stuff with fellow conservatives, and enjoy a good meal while doing so. Even found out some interesting things (did you know Free Republic has its own Facebook Group? How neat is that?).

Of interest were the tea parties...so I bring lists!

More on Tea Party Cities (the Calera and Shelby County @ HWY 280 tea parties scheduled for today were probably canceled due to weather).

Michelle Malkin and Tea Party News

How to Organize a Tea Party

So there’s that!

Anyhow, we all put down a FINALIZED, REGULARIZED meeting time that should be more inclusive for other FReepers on the list within the Greater Birmingham Area:

A biweekly meeting.

Every Saturday at noon.

Meeting place: the Food Court of the Brookview Mall-

LadyPilgrim: BrookWOOD.

Oh yeah! *smacks forehead*

(Running joke of the evening; when talking about the next meeting, I would always say Brookview instead of Brookwood. Cue crack about Tourette’s Syndrome.)

So here’s the time for the next meeting: Saturday, March 14 at 12:00 PM. Location is the Brookwood Mall in the Food Court. It’s sandwiched between Lakeshore, I-65/HWY 31, and HWY 280; it’s right next to Sanford University.

Google Maps.

So there. We plan to talk about Tea Parties, possible methods of educating people about conservatism, and the organizing of public events (one suggestion was of a public forum to try and educate people about the economy, the history of free markets, past recessions...and the response to them. Of particular interest will be Harding’s response to the 1920-21 recession, Hoover/FDR’s response to the 1929 recession and how the Great Depression began, and Reagan’s response to the 1980-81 recession).

Well, that’s my write-up. It was a pleasure meeting you all, and I hope to see more people two weeks from now. (First 4...now 10...let’s try for at least 16. Or maybe even 25!)”

At the Decatur meeting - actually held at the Cracker Barrel in Madison because several people couldn’t get to Decatur as they didn’t get off work until 7:30 or 8:00 - we had 5 FReepers and and 3 teens. And, don’t ‘cha know the very people who couldn’t made Decatur didn’t make Madison either.

Much discussion on how to attract others to the Tea Parties and how to get the Republican Party in Decatur involved, as well as some of our local legislative representatives. We discussed when we would have a Tea Party in Decatur and decided on Saturday, March 28 from 12 noon to 1:00 in Regional Park - right on the river. We discussed ways to spread the word to and through people we know and making signs for the TP. Southron Patriot reported that meetings were being held last night in Albertville and Scottsboro, as part of the Decatur group. In fact, two of those at meeting were from Madison and Lawrence counties, so they will be working with the politicans and their contacts here.
We are scheduled to have a short meeting in 2 weeks to see where we are and exchange progress reports.

When SP posts his report, if he has more detailed info, I’ll either post it here for you or FReepmail it to you.

That was a good speech! I caught it on the 8PM replay.

Best points:

Be on the offensive.
Conservatives love people and want them to succeed.
We look out over the country and see individual people, not victims, not groups to be exploited.
Liberal policies are cruel.

I missed the last 10 minutes because of a phone call and will try to catch it tomorrow.

Another thing...I really, really think that there should be a crowd for the response to the State of the Union speech.
A lone responder talking to the TV in silence gives the impression, no matter how well the speech is delivered, that the responder is part of a small minority. Everything we do should demonstrate that lots of people think the way we do.

I really posted it instead of Freepmailing because I thought somebody should use up some of Illstillbe’s band width!

Thank you so much. I wish I could have been there. I was there in spirit.

I just got a note from Rhetorica. She’s another FReeper from Auburn. She says there was tornado damage both north and south of town and snow predicted tonight. My daughter said that maybe Auburn will get 1” of snow. How about you?

Thank you Dolli and ALL, for the kind words. Miss Charlotte is grateful. She’s a happy camper these days, and we love her too much.

I didn’t ping you Dolli, as I thought you had been away. I’m a bad girl ;)

Trust your life is a little normalized of late. But then, is anyone’s life normal of late? I think most are shell-shocked.
