Ann Coulter has gone too far...
anncoulter.com 2/25/2009 column ^

Posted on 03/02/2009 9:27:04 PM PST by publius_in_abq

Ann Coulter has always been a valiant fighter in the intellectual battle for conservatism. I even have a couple of her books, but she has gone too far this time. She's irritated me for a while now (didn't buy the last 2 books) and it has finally reached a tipping point:

1. It is one thing to criticize the partisanship and naive policy positions of the Jersey Girls, but it is another thing to start saying disparaging things about their husbands possibly leaving those "harpies".

2. It is one thing to criticize John Edwards for hypocrisy and being an intellectual lightweight, but it is another thing to use a sexual slur against him.

The latest slur against Bobbie Jindal is the final straw, and unfortunately it took her slandering a conservative for me to lose my patience with her. If this was an attempt at making fun of absurdity by being abdsurd (i.e. the liberal slurs against Jindal made by Helen Thomas, Malloy, etc.) then she needs to go on record and explain as such. As I read her column, this was just a slur against him for saying a few nice words about the POTUS. It was not a great speech in terms of delivery or clarity, but was her comment about being in "Slumdog Millionaire" really called for? I've had enough of this from her...she is constantly belligerent with people for no reason (O'Reilly who is not a great conservative, but why she'd want to alienate a center-right person of such power and influence is beyond me). And I'm not sure what she was referring to in her CPAC speech about Afghanistan being a quagmire. She is on the verge of becoming a liability to us now, and undermining her own intellectual brilliance (e.g. the illegitimacy portion of her recent book) with needless bombast. Maybe I'm just over-reacting because I am a Jindal fan...what does everyone else think? I'm frustrated...

>>I’ll have to look at it closer but although I actually like Bobby Jindal quite a bit and still do looking ahead, this really isn’t a slur.<<

When you actually get to the actual “slurs” she uses, that is pretty much always the case.

Coulter was in the fray long before 2001.

I first met her at the, "March For Justice," in 1998 and at the time she was writing her first book and had been seen regularly on the cable programs regarding the Lewinsky scandal and Clinton's impeachment.

I didn’t know she said that about Roberts...and yes McCain was awful but he’s still better than Billary or BO, so I thought she was a little off with the campaign stuff too.

Roberts wasn’t on the court at the time of Kelo...O’Connor still was (and voted against it). But I like Malkin too..

I knew you thought Obama will be the winner in 2012
You will do all you can to make that possible.

Not a fan of Ann's simply because when she makes an absolutely brilliant point, she follows it up with a failed attempt at potty humor, which does nothing more than marginalize her to those who might listen.

Now, back to this poster... I suspect a closet troll. Why? Well let's see... the national media attacks on Rush and GOP senators 'turning' on him, and now we have another 'freeper' drumming up another 'don't like this conservative pundit' thread.

I'm sorry, right or wrong, all this crap is divisive.

I’m not a troll..and I support Rush 100% against Steele. This “we want the POTUS to succeed” garbage is what we have to fight, because that is a fight on substance. And you are dead on when you say some of her humor neutralizes her substantive points. That is my problem with the few things I listed about her...although a lot of her humor is right on and genuinely funny...slumdog wasn’t.

I’m actually unhappy with Ann for very good reasons that have to do with fundamental principles of conservatism and constitutional governance.

Good luck with that. Romney has already bought out your party.

As Ann said in her last book, If Liberals Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans:
About twice a year for nearly a decade, I have upset the little darlings with some public statement, and yet they manage to summon fresh outrage for each new offense. Each time they think I can't "sink any lower" -- I proceed to do so! And by the way, if they're going to keep using the tired formulation "This time she's gone too far!" -- can I get an admission that the last sixteen times were, therefore, not "too far"?

Let me or knews_hound know if you'd like to be added to the Ann Coulter ping list.

I don’t always agree with Ann, and sometimes I do think she is over the top. But I was totally disappointed with Jindal’s speech! Good grief! If this is the future of the Republican party, can’t wait to kiss the butts of Obama abnd his thugs, then we really are in bad shape!

No..I’d just like her to recognize and admit that was a dumb and unproductive thing to say. And then I want her to keep on fighting the good substantive points she makes...that’s all.

We’ve got our hands full with BO...with his minions playing the race card (the NY Post uproar was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen)...darn it. Ann is better than that, and I want her in the fight because she is one of the few who don’t play nice with the left (probably Jindal’s weakness). We can’t play nice, but be mean on substance...not on superficialities. As with RUsh saying we need to tell the left that their policies are downright cruel. That is being constructively mean.

It was a bad speech, so criticize him for it...but what does slumdog have to do with criticizing Jindal for playing nice with the Dems and poorly delivering a speech?

The Slumdog thing was a joke/attention-getter, not a personal attack.

No, no, no! You don't understand. It was a racial slur. Let me explain:

1) Jindal is an Indian-American. 2) Slumdog Millionaire is a movie set in India. 3) Ann Coulter is a conservative.

Don't you understand now? It's a clear case of racism / bigotry / slur. Points (1) and (2) together indicate that someone's race has been pointed out. Now, combine that with item (3) and the fact that everyone in the world KNOWS that whenever a conservative says anything even remotely related to race, it automatically equates to racism / bigotry / slurs.

If Coulter was a liberal, then of course this would not be a "slur". Don't forget rule (3) - the conservative/liberal rule. That is why conservative Trent Lott praising Thurmond on his 100th birthday was racist, while liberal cartoonists drawing Condoleeza Rice using the most detestable "mammy" depictions - not seen for 4 or 5 decades now - was NOT racist, or why Jesse Jackson's "hymietown" remark was NOT racist.

These simple rules have been pounded into what's left of Americans' brains now for decades, and as you've seen, there are even a number of FR members who have swallowed this hook, line, sinker, and grape koolaid.

Sometime go to YouTube and search for “Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts”. The Don Rickles clips are the best.

Ann is a throwback to the pre politically correct era when men peed standing up.

I like jindal but if he has a problem with what Coulter said then he is in the wrong line of work. Trust me Ann Coulter has been called worse.

I only complained about Ann’s ethnic slur...

Pardon my ignorance or my poor eyesight or whatever it is, but I still fail to see the "ethnic slur" you keep raving about.

Here's what Ann said:

....gushed that history was being made as the first African-American president appeared before Congress. Even Gov. Bobby Jindal, whom I suppose I should note was the first Indian-American to give the Republican response to a president's speech, began with an encomium to the first black president. (Wasn't Bobby great in "Slumdog Millionaire"?)

OK, obviously your "ethnic slur" radar is vastly superior to my own. Ann's vile slur must be staring me right in the face but I just can't see it! Can you please point it out to me? I keep looking and looking but can't locate it. Do I need a bigger microscope? Or a much thinner skin? Or to expend more effort to get in touch with my inner RINO? Please enlighten me, O Offended One.
