On Glenn Beck's radio show last week, I quipped in response to our wayward federal government, "I may run for president of Texas."
That need may be a reality sooner than we think. If not me, someone someday may again be running for president of the Lone Star state, if the state of the union continues to turn into the enemy of the state.
From the East Coast to the "Left Coast," America seems to be moving further and further from its founders' vision and government.
George Washington advised, "The great rule of conduct in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations [and] having with them as little political connection as possible." Yet the Obama administration just pledged $900 million in U.S. taxpayer-funded aid to Hamas-controlled Gaza and Mahmoud Abbas' Palestinian Authority.
Thomas Jefferson counseled us, "We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt." Yet the Feds have just skyrocketed our national deficit and debt by trillions of dollars, and it plans much more fiscal expansion with few expectations of resistance. Despite that George Washington admonished, "To contract new debts is not the way to pay for old ones," we keep borrowing and bailing, while we watch the stock market plunge further every time we do.
Patrick Henry taught that, "Our Constitution is
an instrument for its people to restrain the government." Yet our Congress and president stampede that founding document, overlook its explicitness and manipulate its words to abandon a balance of power and accommodate their own desires, partisan politics and runaway spending.

I think he is right.
He makes sense to me
If Texas goes, we might be able to take neighboring states with us.
Is Alaska a close enough neighbor?
I’m in, as a native Texan.
And I do think that we could take Oklahoma, Louisiana, and perhaps a few others with us.
If LA goes then the rest of the SE goes except maybe FL.
South Carolina was first last time, and we'll be first again. We'll race y'all to the door. Washington can even keep the flag. We've already got our own. I do think we should consider putting the new capital in Austin. We've got too many yankees in Atlanta.

There are a great number of groups in Texas already clamoring for what Chuck is talking about. You should research the subject and perhaps you might not have the same conclusion. Texas could quite easily be economically self sufficient. We also have the population to raise a well trained and well armed militia. Add in a couple of other regional states like, Louisiana and Oklahoma ... well I hope you get the picture.
“I don’ think so, Scooter” (Fellow Texan, Ron White)
This is an unlikely scenario. But if Texas and a few surrounding states secede, I’m moving there. Without the stabilizing influence of a few conservative states, this country would be on an even faster road to serfdom. I would get out before they start putting up walls to keep people in.
If Oklahoma goes, so goes Missouri. Woo hoo! We might get to be a border state again! Let’s get to it.
Git ‘er done, as they say.
Hmm... Let’s see: Texas declares its independence.Says: “We are now a sovereign nation.”
United States says: “Mmm..kay. Tell ya what. We’re going to shut down every military base in Texas,(after stripping them of equipment, and demolishing the buildings);then we’ll shut down the Post Office, and all other federal facilities, and remove their files and what have you to loyal territory;and, while we’re about it, all Social Security, Medicare, Government pensions, etc. will be suspended for the duration; FDIC protection of bank deposits will end, FCC air towers will be closed, and stripped of gear; Coast Guard and Navy will operate only on the high seas, Border Patrol will be diverted to other states...you get the idea: Texas will be altogether on its own...and, oh yes: will be treated as undesirable, and illegal aliens should they attempt to cross the border.
Wow ! Whoopie !! No more federal income tax - but the State tx bite should be pretty “entertaining”, AND, you’ll have all those militia cells to defend you from any neighbors with bad motives !!
Sorry about that comment of yours. On the other hand, Mr. Norris has my vote. Maybe we can get Arizona in the mix, too.
I am sure you think you wrote about things that would be detrimental to an independent Texas. I am sure you think that. But then, there is no accounting for how some people delude themselves.
Whats the downside?
Seriously though, while you make good points re infrastructure, I seriously doubt that any large scale attempt at destroying buildings could be accomplished. In the long run (10 years) I think it would be clear that Texas never needed the Federal government in the first place. And since you would treat us as illegal aliens, we know where we need to go if we ever want free stuff from the government!
Go for it, lad-but PLEASE ! Stop wrapping yourself in OUR flag (the flag of the United States), and braying about how wonderfully “patriotic” you are.
This is what all of us TEXANS talk about daily. We have oil, cotton, corn, milo, cattle, dairy farms, wind power, water, etc etc.. so we would survive. Not so sure the states that depend on us would..... but hay, you better move or get out of the way. We are one big state!
