Why I want to move to Texas
Me

Posted on 04/18/2009 5:12:18 PM PDT by cubsfanconswoman

This is why I've decided to start to look for oppurtunities to move my family to Texas. My husband's company has an office in Dallas and in Houston and they've told him he can transfer.

I love a lot about Chicago. I was born and raised in the area. I love the lake, I bleed Cubbie blue and Bears navy blue and orange.

But Illinois and Cook County is being destroyed by the democrats. The more control they have gotten the worse things have become. And yes it's the same machine that produced Obama. I can't believe people will really be shocked if stuff comes out as Blagojevich stuff goes forward.

But this is why

1. Gun control laws. While I probably would never own one I want to be able to have one.

2. Conservative attitudes welcome.

3. Schools have freedom of thought.

4. People are nicer.

One way I learned the difference between red cities and blue cities is I used to be a trainer at work.

When we had a group come in from Texas or Louisiana everyone would become fast friends, have lunch in groups, go out after training together to events and I was treated like a friend. I am still friends with quite a few of them. When I had my first child many contributed towards a gift card for me.

When the blue cities came in everyone sat at different tables, went out after work all seperately and treated me like the enemy.

When I'd visit the offices in the red areas I never ate alone or at my hotel. I was invited to dinner often in the people's homes.

When I'd visit the blue areas I never was invited to dinner.

And I look at how friendly the people here are from Texas.

Yes I'll miss my extended family but that's why planes were invented and my parents are talking about retiring to Texas anyway.

And if I moved to Houston my Cubs come in 3 times a year so I can go see them there. I love their park anyway.

Yes this is the land of Reagan but all Illinois has produced on the national level since has been a steaming pile of crap.

You’re so lucky.

We are eager to get out of NJ but we can’t at the moment.

My question is, if the country goes to pot and Texas becomes it’s own country, will they take political refuges?

No state income tax in texas

Home prices are quite reasonable

gasoline prices stay reasonable as compared to other parts of the nation.

plenty of wide open spaces.

plenty of big lakes (man made) - but they are BIG

But, remember...we also have no state income tax, no tax on groceries or drugs and our housing prices will shock you.

We have been hit a bit by the unemployment, so it may be harder to get a job right now, but bear in mind, your cost of living will likely be lower (depending on what part of Illinois you’re coming from).

We welcome all conservative yanks...but liberals, not so much!

The more the merrier. Just remember, the summers are hot and the winters are warm considering you are moving from Chicago. I live 30 miles northwest of San Antonio. Moved here from Virginia a little over a year ago. I will never leave. You will go through an adjustment of getting over being politically correct, always in a hurry, and being afraid of the neighbors. It is still okay to pray in public without being ridiculed down here too.

Hey, we are on our way to the Dallas area in a few mos as well, escaping from CA for obvious reasons.

How is the job market? What type of company in Dallas is letting hubby transfer?

DH is looking for something in risk management.

He works for an IT company.

Depending on the cost of living I could probably be a Full time stay at home mom as well in Texas.

You will be welcome in Texas! We can always use another conservative, because you just can’t have too many reinforcements in the army of common sense.

However, we may have to come up with a citizenship test to keep an influx of unemployed liberals from fouling our state. We have concentrated Libs in Austin and some of the gayer parts of Houston, but the rest of the state has not been contaminated to this point, and we do want to keep it that way.

“While I probably would never own one...”

Everyone owns a gun in Texas. They won’t let you into the state until you show yours.

Some of my relatives were here in Texas as a Republic.

Most of my ancestors came to Texas during Reconstruction after the last Civil War. At that time it was Common to see a GTT (Gone To Texas) note nailed on the door of vacant homes.

All this doom and gloom, the last time I looked this is still Texas where I live.

It has never been easy to make a living here, but the natives are friendly and most of them simply leave us along to live our lives as we see fit.

We were beaten in a War once, but have recovered from that (not forgotten). But we were never subjected or occupied, they tried that once and it did not work out very well.

Settlers are still welcome here. We might need you to defend her.

But bring your smiles with you.

in Cook county we pay 1200 dollars more a year in property taxes than my parents in Lake County and they have 3/4 an acre to our 1/4 of an acre and their house is bigger.

State and county sales taxes here are just going up and up.

I don't know but we see it this way.

Would I want our daughter to remain in a country like Zimbabwe?

Absolutely NOT!

We will do what we can but IF the U.S. becomes another Zimbabwe, we're out of the U.S..

Californians are infamous for leaving their state, relocating, then pining for how things were ‘back home’, thus infecting their new habitats with the germs that infected their old one.

If it was up to me I’d quarrantine Kalifornia, seal it so that none may escape and harm the rest of us.

But is isn’t.

So just wipe your feet really, really really good when you leave.
