Actually I thought they were way too casual. Almost to the point of placing theirself in too much position of disadvantage. Leaning on arms in the window, etc. They were at tragic risk of a man who shows he’s a nut. He could have easily killed one if he wanted to. And they behaved that way to appease nuts who try to bait them.

They were good guys. Hope they always remain safe in their thankless job.

i can respect your opinion on this too

but these guys beat him up hours later...that takes away all the sympathy i would have had for them

I don’t think that not submitting to arbitrary searches or questioning constitutes being a nut. We do have a right to be secure in our persons and property from “unreasonable” searches and to remain silent. They either have to have probable cause to believe he was committing a crime or a warrant. Probable cause does not mean suspition, or even any cause, but probability.

They do have the right to ask him for his ID, but did not do that until at least 3/4 of the way through the ordeal, which had degraded in civility, in large part by their inability to deal with the situation in a professional manner. They stopped him and didn’t tell him what they wanted. That’s all they had to do. You know, just checking things out, you look okay, see you later.
