OK I'll (vanity) it: The Mexican flu is total Bull. Must be a distraction.

Posted on 04/25/2009 5:37:59 PM PDT by Cringing Negativism Network

Haven't seen so much media-generated hysteria since forever.

But it's all bull. Smoke. All of it.

Every. Single. Year. 30,000 Americans are killed by this exact same Flu. Type A.

How many Americans have succumbed to this one?

(that's a rhetorical question)

I suspect, this is all an elaborate ruse. To cover up our "dear leader's" plummeting approval numbers.

Someone, has been doing some polling. That's what I think.

“That’s fewer Americans than are killed on our roads and highways.”

...and less than 10% of the abortions in the US/year.

Years ago, the air in Mexico DF was dubbed ‘la mierda’ because of the pollution and poor sanitation control, combined with all the people squeezed in with each other. The poor were picking through garbage for food & stuff from the great heaps on the outskirts of the city.

Wikianswers has the 2008 metro population at 19.5 million +/- persons, but the City itself is estimated to hold about 8.8 million.

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_is_population_of_Mexico_City_in_2008

The situation makes for a lot of things, including a danger of illness, at least part of which is a result of the state of health care or lack of it. There may well be a real health danger there from this flu, as there would be among the poor anywhere; 3rd world poor though takes a person’s breath away, even in a corrupt country.

WTF does this have to do with Obama?

Besides that you are sounding completely uneducated here. I have studied virology and microbiology. Because two old people die from the flu doesn’t mean that its the same for every flu. As it is obvious that you do not know but not every Flu is the same and not every Type will have the same strain. Because this is type A it doesn’t mean it’s the same seasonal type A that hits us every year. What concerns everybody is the fact that the young and healthy died, like what happened during the 1918 Spanish Flu and the 1976 outbreak.

The elderly die from the regular flu because of secondary infections. THe young die from Flu’s like the Spanish flu due to a systematic over-reaction by the immune system causing the symptoms to be deadly. The elderly don’t die because their immune systems aren’t strong enough to over-react.

Lasting effects include feeling like you’re in a fog, mentally; vague aches and pains; and peripheral neuropathy.

I thought I was just getting old.

Seriously I was probably infected and fought it off. A good wet summer here in the Michigan swamps really brings out the bloodsuckers.

Heck. From what I understand. Someone dropped stone-cold from actual SARS, not too far away from here a couple years ago.

I was (probably too) concerned then. Posting still not far from the Mexican border - dealing every single day with ethnic Mexicans. (bit more difficult to state nationality)

I don’t buy it. In fact, I’ve gone from total bug-out mode Friday, to disbelief in just one day.

I’m starting to smell a rat.

A democ-Rat.

I wish the liberal media would hurry up and go bankrupt.

They so very, suck.

Pravda had nothing on America’s state-run media.

The sky is not falling.

It is. Look outside.

We're not doomed.

Yes we are. Do you plan on living forever?

That's funny, over on DU, the moonbats are insisting that Dick Cheney's released a bio-weapon in Mexico to stop illegal immigration, and divert people's attention away from "torture".

I guess somewhere between Chicken Little and ignoring everything is a happy medium where we take reasonable precautions to deal with this, elevating them as the danger might grow in our particular areas. Modern community health organizations are very effective in containing plagues that used to decimate whole populations, I'll give them some slack no matter who sits in the White House.

One of the most effective tools they have is electronic transmission of messages telling people not to have contact with other people in a given area. Sometimes, that's going to spill over into hype on slow news days, but it's better than having to be told face-to-face to stay inside.

Don’t be an imbecile. This is not a media inspired con.

The Mexican swine flu is a weird variant of H1N1, enough of a mutation that previous vaccinations are not working against it.

Right now the CDC, the WHO, the Mexican government, the Canadian government, the British government, and the Mexican health care industry are freaking out about this. People are dropping like flies.

Tell you what. In one week one epidemiologist is predicting that 500,000 Mexicans are going to be sick. Is that enough to persuade you that this is not just media hype?

Even if it isn’t a diaper load, most people believe that it is because the big Zero has lied about everything else. It is impossible to tell is he is lying or not. So no one can trust his word. Hey Michelle, paying attention?

“Right now the CDC, the WHO, the Mexican government, the Canadian government, the British government, and the Mexican health care industry are freaking out about this. People are dropping like flies.”

The thing is, people are “dropping like flies” to normal flu strands, too. And heart disease. And cancer. And highway travel. And slipping in the tub. It’s perfectly normal for people to be dropping like flies over something.

This is scaring people who are payed to be sacred. Fine for them. As for the media, they have absolutely no sense of proportion. Everything new scares the hell out of them. If deaths can be avoided by scientists running around like chickens with their heads cut off, fine. Reporting on it like it’s the black death, as the MSM has done over and over, being proved wrong time and time again, not fine.

OK a challenge is a challenge. Fair and square.

In response to the challenge in post 52. Doesn’t the CDC report to the NHS, the Department of Health and Human Services, which reports to the Executive Branch?

Which reports to Obama?

I mean I’m not trying to don a tin foil hat here - but this administration has shown a (very) strong willingness to politicize just about anything.

I’m sure not a few FReepers will recognize that as a fact.

OK now. On to the next post.

(whew) This honest challenge stuff is sort of fun.

BRB... :)

Since Obama doesn't want to close the borders, I don't see this as some king of scheme. This is the kind of thing that will get folks agitated to close the borders. Why would the current administration want to alarm folks? Doesn't make sense to me.

Because he wants to push his socialized health care through Congress and fast.
