They are warranted for 100K miles but that doesn't mean they quit at that point. Priuses used as taxis are approaching 400K miles without needing a replacement.
Just to be the Devil's advocate
First On Race Day
You are right that probably that is a bit exaggerated. But, they still aren’t driving in realistic conditions.
Good to know. What's the source on that?
Na...it’s the “other” F word on race day..... ;’)
Thank you. I have been driving a Prius (not totally voluntarily, but that’s another story), with no battery problems whatsoever (not even close to the warranty mark, though). My hubby and I were looking for something a little bigger, we asked about the battery issue. The salesman said that the myth about the batteries dying is just that: he wasn’t aware of ANY battery failures of ones driven well past the 100,000 mark.
I wouldn’t say it is a great winter car, but a block heater and some wonderful winter tires have helped a LOT. And the 43-45 mpg in the summer is pretty sweet for this leadfoot.
Toyota claims they have replaced zero batteries due to wear out. The only replacements have been due to accidents.

Quit being a jackass for a few minutes and explain how a private company producing a fuel-efficient mid-side hybrid impacts your ability to use your one-ton duallie?
I have an Escape Hybrid that's just gone over 80k. It's never been in the shop for any reason other than scheduled maintenance and a set of tires. Heck, it's never even had to have brakes done. My other vehicle is an F150. I don't expect the compact SUV to haul logs to the dump or pull my boat. That's what the truck is for, and as far as I can tell Ford is doing nothing to discourage me from getting a new pickup truck.
Hybrids aren't a threat to your manhood. They're cars. You can have one or not - it's your choice.
That’s what the salesman said that Toyota told him, too.
It’s the kind of thing that would be too stupid to lie about. If it were not true it would be very easily disproved. Kinda like Hillary being named after Edmund Hillary or Obama saying Selma lead to his birth.
That is an awful slow 1k
Very good question! And how long did it take to travel that 1000 miles, hitting top speed of 28 miles per hour? Hmm?? :)
