Re: “One of the great scandals of our age is the fact that America spends more on Pet food than any other nation does on food.”

*********

I’m one of those spending a small fortune on special pet food and meds. My dog will die without them and they are costly — can’t have meat based proteins found in all the standard pet foods.

I resent the price I’m paying but should I let the dog go blind again and die? Her life will be shorter anyway due to her genetic liver condition (this was discovered after I’d had her nearly a year).

I’m not one of those “keep them alive at all cost” people but really don’t think it a good idea to just feed her the cheapest standard protein rich dog food on sale and blame myself when she dies quickly. What would you do? Try to keep your animal as healthy as possible or contribute knowingly to its demise?

You've made your budget. I don't afford the luxury of a pet, purchased or adopted.
