It may look like a polar bear that has ventured too far south - but these once-in-a-lifetime photographs are of the extremely rare Spirit Bear.
Once thought to exist only in Native American mythology, the Spirit Bear, or Kermode Bear, is now recognised as an off-shoot of the American Black Bear population that lives in the lush coastal forests of British Columbia.

There was a bear around here last year that was mostly blond with some red and black. I think it is a “punk” bear.
SOjme enterprising capitalist should capture a female & male, breed ‘em and go in the white bear pelt business.
Polar bear are listed (incorrectly, of course) as a protected species under CITES, but black bear are not.
As a mere color phase, such black bear could probably be commercially farmed. Therefore such pelts would command a very high price.
To ensure a species future, make it commercially valuable. As proof,, note the number of domestic cattle and the absence of their progenitor, Bos primogens.
One last thought on the “Spirit Bear” bit. If the gooberment continues to take gooberment notice of, and make policy upon such Native American Indian beliefs as the “Spirit Bear”, brace yer sef’ fer gooberment recognition of the new gooberment version of the “Holy Madonna”, complete with nasssty lyrics and a new “boy toy”.
Hmmmn - guess the Church of the Holy Duracell Bunny” can’t be far behind. Wait! I forgot - make that the Church of the Holy Wright. Rites at the Church of the Holy Wright will be those taught by the Great Guru Bill Davis to the Obamassiah.
