Gibson took out my beloved Red Sox at the ‘67 WS. Kept us waiting even longer for a championship.

Wasn’t his lifetime ERA 1. something?"

The first year I remember him pitching, 1968 his ERA was close to 1. But, I think his ERA lifetime was around 3 - still, very impressive.

He also liked to work very quickly which made him my brother’s favorite pitcher. My brother never had patience for long drawn-out baseball games.

We’ll be proud to go first, when the shit comes down. Send your goons out Obama, everyone I know in St. Louis is heavily armed and pissed off.

Definitely a WTF moment! Let’s see the pitch!

Derek Jeter to George W. Bush: "Mr. President, in New York, we pitch from the mound. And don't bounce it, they'll boo you."

Just weeks after 9/11...

Game 3 of the World Series, not far from Ground Zero...

Over 50,000 fans in the stands, light bulbs going off like crazy...

a REAL MAN steps on the mound...

Thumbs up...

and throws a perfect STRIKE.

Still makes me want to weep, thinking about it and seeing the replays...how proud I was of our country then...

Memo to Governor Palin - start working on your "first pitch"! And all the policy stuff too!

Maybe Obama just made the pitch motion and graphic experts are currently working on having a perfect curve ball added. Ten more mins and we will an enhanced video of the full pitch.

That 1968 year was a great year for pitchers. They elevated the pitching mound that year. I believe they changed it the next year.

Don Drysdale - “ I hate pitch outs. What a waste of 4 pitches. Just hit the SOB with one pitch. It gets the job done as well!”

Somebody in the crowd had to have recorded it

Watch for it on Youtube after the game is over. Or maybe someone cool with a PDA will post it right away.

"Gibson took out my beloved Red Sox at the ‘67 WS. Kept us waiting even longer for a championship."

Oh, that was '67 and not '68 - the year I thought his ERA was so low. But, that must have been 1967 as well. My, how the years fly by. McCarver caught that game too, IIRC.

In 1968 Gibby had something like 12 shutouts. Can you imagine anyone today even being allowed to pitch 9 innings 12 times in a year?

Vegas should have a line on yes or no if the MSM will ever show the pitch and catch. I don’t ever remember ever seeing just one angle for a President’s pitch.

Normally there are many, especially one from the catcher’s point of view.
