Cokie Roberts: 'Men Are Just Lesser Beings'

In the "First Person Singular" interview in The Washington Post Magazine on Sunday, ABC and NPR news analyst Cokie Roberts expressed her female chauvinism loud and clear: "Men are just lesser beings." Strangely, her extreme take on the sexes came right after she proclaimed she was in the common-sense middle of political opinion:

“Men are just lesser beings...”

Precisely. I mean, the evidence is so clear. Just look throughout history, in virtually any field of endeavor, you’ll find overwhelming evidence that............uh, um, uh, yeah, well, have a nice day..........

Well Cooooky, if it wasn’t for men, you’d be still living in the stone age waiting for a man to invent the wheel.

Women just are better. Men are just lesser beings.

Right Cokie. That is why men overwhelmingly do the fighting and dying to defend the country. And why when people run into burning buildings to save people they dont even know, they are almost always men.

I believe in freedom of expression. So go ahead, keep making a fool of yerself.

Actually, she’s wrong. We’re a birth defect. All fetuses (fetusi?) start out female. The fetus with a damaged chromosome (the “Y” chromosome) becomes male due to a massive hormone imbalance... So we’re victims and need special protection under the law. For instance, men should be allowed to park in handicapped parking... (/humor)

Given her hubby, I can see how she might come to that opinion.

actually that is a common misperception. we all start out undifferentiated.

not female. If you stop the development process then you have a genderless baby other than by looking at the chromosomes.

it is a common mistake pushed by pop culture science.

by that logic since all fetuses are little blobs at the start of life, then all fetuses start as dolphins, dogs, cats, or any other pc creature de jour.

Au contraire! Men are our perfect complement! I can’t move refrigerators or kill spiders or be inclined to figure out why the furnace isn’t working or care about blueprints. (Not saying that all women feel this way...) Plus, men are plain FUNNY. They look nice in flannel and denim. They kill things we can eat. And for all of our quirks and emotions, they still love us! That is the biggest mystery of all!! Thank you, Lord, for men!

I sorta like this quote

I think that often where I am is just in the middle. The middle is often the common-sensical place to be. The notion that one side is right and one side is wrong is generally, as one finds in life, not the case.

This is wrong on so many levels that it's hard to know where to begin. In short, most often one side is right and the other is wrong. The middle is always wrong because it has to incorporate a compromise including wrong.

The nice thing about the conservative-libertarian, classical liberal position is that it doesn't matter if you are wrong, you can only hurt yourself, not others if you are. But you won't be very often.

I’d reply, but I’d just irritate some female freepers, so I’ll just keep my thoughts to myself, (and my golf buddies).

I don't agree with Cokie, but I wouldn't bet my life that a man invented the wheel or that he wasn't nagged, er, inspired by a woman to do so. (Can't you bring in more firewood at a time than that?)
