Fortunately (for us at least), we went to the German Grand Prix this past July. We almost put it off till next year but I particularly wanted to go to Hockenheim...mostly because of its relative proximity to Heidelberg, one of my favorite cities. Glad we didn't put it off.

One circumstance I can comment on is the transportation situation to and from Hockenheim. It's a bit remote - but no more so than, say, Silverstone. (And not so much as Watkins Glen :-). Hockenheim's a small town with a very small train station so the public transportation aspect was a bit of a negative. The trains were inconsistent and thus sardine-packed when one finally came. The last day, there was a problem on the tracks (accident) and the trains were all delayed so we grabbed a bus at the Heidelberg bahnhof (same starting point as the trains) and it took us directly to the Hockenheim bahnhof (same dropping off point as the train). The bus was half full and comfortable and the ride was nice and took no longer than the train. If there were a next time, we'd absolutely take the bus. Made me think maybe the race organizers could take some lessons from the folks in Austin.

Neither did I! I don’t think anybody did. I started rooting for Nico right after he started with Williams, only because I really liked his father’s style back in the day. Then, his personality just kinda grew on me. I later on and up until now, really liked how he conducted himself while teamed with that punk Hamilton.

1. I think the issues with Lewis had a large impact on Nico.

2. Mercedes now has limited cards to play against Lewis.

3. Who will they take as the next driver? Someone to keep Lewis in in line such as Sebastian Vettel or Fernando Alonso. Or someone young (Pascal Wehrlein) and cut loose Lewis at the end of his contract? Maybe use Jensen Button to fill in since most drivers are locked up in costly contracts.

Going to be an interesting off season!

Mercedes allowing the petulant child Hamilton to run roughshod over their orders, and attempt to screw over his teammate simply because he wasn't going to win the championship, would have been my tipping point.

Hamilton is a sore loser, and a graceless winner.

Hey, Jensen might be a great choice. I think he started regretting his decision to retire a few months back. I think not being competitive for a long while got him down, as it would any ex F1 World Champion. The chance to get a Mclaren seat might be just what gets him back. I would love to see it.

Did you where see where that jerk Hamilton, dressed like some punk, hung out with that skank, Paris Hilton, at HER after race party, while ALL of the other drivers helped Nico celebrate his World Championship at HIS party!? (Either Nico didn’t want him there, or the other drivers didn’t, or Hamilton just didn’t want to go, whatever way it says a lot about his popularity huh?!) I hope McLaren fires his butt.

He was my favorite driver. I have gone from so happy to so sad. (They should have fired Hamilton over his insubordination. Maybe that is what this is about?)

Agree with Lockbox. Yes, I know it’s a business and a business filled with high-strung divas. But Hamilton is a step beyond all of them. No class, no grace, totally into himself and doesn’t give a damn about anyone else.

Hamilton sucked the fun out of it for Nico. Mercedes will probably settle for Wehrlein or some cardboard cutout who is expected to be the next Rubens Barricello monkey boy. But the difference is that Schumi had class and Rubens played his role with dignity. Not gonna be the case with Hamilton, whom I despise.

Maybe the best thing, if you really like a train wreck of a racing soap opera, would be to somehow pair Hamilton with Verstappen and watch them wreck each other with overly aggressive driving.
