Formula 1: Miami gives early go-ahead for race to be held in city
Formula 1 has received “preliminary approval” from Miami for a Grand Prix to be held in the city from next year.
Miami’s city officials voted unanimously on Thursday to enter formal negotiations with F1.
If the event comes off, it would be the first street race in the United States since a Grand Prix in Phoenix, Arizona in 1991.
The Miami event would be the second F1 race in the US, in addition to the Grand Prix in Austin, Texas.
Sean Bratches, F1’s managing director commercial operations, said: “We recognise that this is only the start of the process and we will immediately get to work with the various community stakeholders, the City of Miami, the Port of Miami, Bayfront Park Management Trust and others, in order to reach a final agreement.
“Formula 1 in Miami represents a fantastic opportunity to bring the greatest racing spectacle on the planet to one of the world’s most iconic cities, and we are delighted that the journey is under way.”

Miami is a great choice, lot of South Americans and Europeans will come. They love Miami! So this will be great for F1 and Miami. Just need a more interesting track layout.

(Nevada Highway Patrol)
Police say seatbelts saved the lives of two people who crashed their $300,000 supercar in the Nevada desert, but the vehicles engineers deserve a fair share of the credit.
The Nevada Highway Patrol found the totaled McLaren 720 about 70 yards off a road near Lake Mead last week, with damage suggesting that it had rolled at least once as it just missed falling down a ravine.
The 710 horsepower coupé is one of the quickest cars in the world, and has a top speed of 212 mph. It features a carbon fiber passenger cell, similar to a racecars, thats designed to be both lightweight and extremely strong.
ARE YOU FOLLOWING FOX NEWS AUTOS ON FACEBOOK YET?
Despite the massive impact, which left parts of the vehicle scattered around it, at least one of its butterfly-style doors still worked after the accident.
According to police, neither of the occupants was seriously injured. They werent there when the car was discovered, however. After searching the area, police learned that they had gotten themselves to a nearby hospital to be treated for scrapes and bruises.
The car was apparently taking part in a cross-country exotic car rally, which is a gathering of supercar owners who stay in high-end hotels and hold parties at each stop along the way.
In YouTube video shot at the scene by Daily Driven Exotics, the driver of a Lamborghini Huracan who was taking part in the event says that he spoke to the McLaren passengers and that they were OK.
Be some nice bits to pluck off that car. The engine would clean up and make a nice centerpiece.
yup, nice piece of glass on top and instant coffee table
So much for an insurance claim!
LOL!!! pretty much
Seems the monocell 2 tub held up well. The doors worked after a rollover which is a great statement for the car integrity.
The road car lap record standings for Silvertone in UK are:
1. McLaren 720S
2. McLaren P1
3. Bugatti VeyronI am sure that the McLaren Senna will soon be 1st.
yup, works as advertised, couldn’t ask for more
except maybe a better driver
The red car in your post is a 570S. It has traction control, but can’t avoid physics if you go into a corner too fast.
The wrecked car is the new for 2018 720S. It has traction control and drift control for tracks where you have to do training laps. On an open road it is about the same as a 570S. The 720S has an active rear wing, but at high speed it would be lowered to reduce drag. Someone drove too fast into a curve.
I am looking at new 570S, used 650S or new 720S. The 720S is more than I want to pay, but it is really fast. All three are about the same 0-60 being at the limit of physics for a non-drag car at around 2.8 to 2.9 seconds. So I am not sure I would ever use the 720S performance except for a track day.
Was that XP4 the concept car that had the BMW engine like the McLaren F1? not like the new cars that have the Tom Walkinshaw Indy Racing League V8 Twin Turbo in 3.8 or 4L capacity?
Here is a link to the supercar rally where this happened right at about 16:40 into the video.
