I don't know why Great Dane's seem to die so young.

They’re prone to cancer, gastric torsion, bone malformation, and who knows what else...

All the large breeds tend to have short lifespans. I’ve had some large ones, Irish Wolfhounds in particular. Won’t do it again, can’t go through the heartache of 7-9 years.

This one died from bone cancer. We had a black Dane who lived until he was 11. We have a Merlequin now who is one.

They are sweet old dogs but too big. Things go bad quickly and just too big. Sad because they are nice dogs. Newfoundlands are even nicer but sadly they have short life spans too.

Ditto that. We have had two Newfies and a sweeter dog just doesn’t exist in my opinion. He would heel for our 5 year old son. That was too cute - this 200 pound dog (in the winter he bulked up some) and his master.

Life expectancy for large dogs isn’t as long as other dogs. Great Danes only are supposed to live 5-7years. We’ve had 4 that made it to between 10-12 though.

Well now you did it - you got to post some pics.

They are wonderful “old bears.” Wonderful dogs. I need to research the geneology. Both the Neufies and the Labs came from Neufoundland as far as a I know. The Labs did not come from Labrador. The Labs came from the St. John’s dog which I think you or someone posted a picture which I saw of the last two old boys who became extinct about 100 years ago.

Both dogs are wonderful. There are a few Nuefies the world who work as a lifeguard. I saw a video of one plus pics at a Lake I think in northern Italy.
