Holy cow!! What a bomb!!! (new Leno)

Posted on 09/14/2009 10:45:50 PM PDT by djf

Anybody else watch this? Hey, if so I forgive you for refusing to admit it!

Forty minutes in to it, and I haven't even chuckled once! The Obama interview skit was a joke, and not even a real one!

Seinfeld is about as washed up as five year old socks... Now, Kanye that yayhoo is trying to make everybody feel sorry for himself...

And I'm missing sterling entertainment like Coast to Coast for this crap???

I live in the DC market ...

The TV critic in the Wa Po wrote that the new Leno may actually backfire on NBC as a whole ...

1. Although the new Leno costs much less to produce than a single network show, there are 5 less timeslots for those shows.

2. However, Leno has to go head-to-head with scripted network shows 5 times a week. CSI Miami, CSI NY, Mentalist, Numbers - these are hugely popular and will prolly trash Leno in the ratings.

3. Also, advertisers only paid rock bottom prices for air time since this is not a scripted network show and they do not believe that Leno will be able to compete. Less $$$ for NBC

4. WRC (the NBC affiliate in DC) is MASSIVELY upset that Leno is on before the 11 O’Clock news. WRC news has been #1 in the market for a decade and it believes that if Leno cannot get the ratings, no one will watch him, and then there will be no viewership carry over to the news.

5. Same goes for Conan - no watch Leno, no carryover to news, thus no carryover to Conan.

I think the NBC program execs should be polishing up their resumes - they fu*ked up royal !!!

And they dump shows that had at least consistent draws like “Life” and “Deal or no Deal” for this junk? It worked at 11:30, but just ain’t got the substance to take the 10:00 PM time slot.

The hour makes a huge difference in what a person will accept as minimal entertainment, try watching what you think of as the best season of Saturday Night Live at 4 in the afternoon, it is dismal.

We used to have a local show here in Seattle called “Almost Live!” and it was far, far funnier.

I loved that show. "Cops in Redmond"..."Cops in Ballard"....Speedwalker....The Lame List....classic stuff.

I caught the headlines. I always like those. Maybe that’s the time to tune in, 6 minutes before the show ends.

Conan is funny the way a teenager is funny when he sticks a french fry up his nose...

Masturbating bears, hemorrhoid boy, it’s like one time shtick only. And he’s always been a legend in his own mind.

You forgot to mention the hair. Now it is lightly unkempt, which is VERY planned. They spend so much time on hosts’ hair that this must have meant that now he is “letting his hair down” so to speak. A little strand hanging into his face.

Yes, I caught the last quarter of the first game. But the Leno thing was on during the second game, on the east coast anyway. I still have the opportunity not to watch it here on the west coast.

Renton has some sort of publicity campaign going now and they have a commercial with John Keister saying “Renton - ahead of the curve”

I always chuckle when I see it because I think back to the times my wife and I would drink a bottle of wine on a Saturday night and watch it...

I’d watch paint drying before Leno.

Wow, I really am cut off from mainstream TV. I didn’t even know Jay Leno had a new show! I barely knew he left the old one. I guess it should have dawned on me when they said yesterday that Kayne West was going to be on Leno tonight. I was still thinking of his old program though. Not that I’m against Leno, but it feels good to be cut off from the crap on TV. I don’t even watch cable news any more. If I do watch TV, it’s Nat Geo, Discovery/ID, Science Channel, Biography type stuff. A friend on Facebook talks about this or that season premier, and I have no idea what the heck she is talking about. I love it!

It was like the timing was off. Even seinfeld was flat.

Sounds like a bad opening for Leno. I can see him doing a weekly show from his garage on the Speed channel or the Discovery channel.

I think this is disrespectful. Johnny didn’t soil Leno’s slot by popping up in primetime. Of course, Johnny was retired, but Leno knew this was coming. I’m sure he could’ve cut a deal to stay as long as he wanted at the Tonight Show. And if the NBC suits wouldn’t allow it, he could jump networks. Anything but move his show, piece by piece, to an earlier timeslot. It’s ridiculous.

Cops from Ballard / Worst Girl Friend / Speed Walker / Mind Your Manners. / Space Needle falling over....

I used to laugh loudly every week.

“Same goes for Conan - no watch Leno, no carryover to news, thus no carryover to Conan.”

It’s not just that. If they actually do tune in to Leno, and the audience carries over to the news, they might shut off Conan anyway. “What’s this, the Tonight Show? Didn’t we just watch this?”

Jay is perhaps the only one left in NBC who isn’t a shameless raving lunatic liberal. He is a self described fiscal conservative/social liberal. If NBC gave him more leeway, I bet he would do more Obama jokes.
