Just breaking...found in a Georgia landfill..confirmed by Gov. Crist
I will most gladly volunteer as the terminator.
Sad as it is that a 12 year old is thinking that way, he’s probably a lot safer for it. It’s the ones who are too confident that everything will be fine, that are most likely to get into a dangerous situation.
Ditto....sad thing.
Actually it's not. There are about 100-130 stranger abductions of children in the US per year, and that number has held steady for a long time. The difference is that at one time this would have been a local story and now its all over 24 hour news stations.
Amen
I know at least one of these types, somewhat related to me, who moved to FL to sponge off his retired parents... parents who refuse to look at and admit what the scumbag has done. I wonder if there's a lot of that here in FL?
Pliers.
Blowtorch.
Bonesaw.
Boat.
Deep water.
Sharks.
There is no punishment too severe for scum like this.
A childless female colleague was holding forth on what is wrong with today’s parents. “They’re all too overprotective. They don’t let their kids experience life.”
She was shocked when I told her that in my neighborhood we still do visual hand-offs when the girls are going to another girl’s house. And while the older kids can hang out on the street if they want, they’re in specific places that are always within the line of sight of 2 houses.
What really horrified her though was when the other parents started chiming in with similar stories from where they lived. Yeah. Experiencing life is great - as long as you’re alive to experience it.
I know it certainly seems that way, but I'm not entirely sure it's true.
40 years ago the population was much smaller, so we would expect a larger raw number of such occurences just because there are more people. The question is whether the rate has gone up.
It's remarkably difficult to get accurate comparative statistics, mostly because 40 or 60 years ago the records weren't compiled. Best results I've been able to get indicate roughly the same rate of such things happening.
So whyd do we all feel like the rate is higher. I suspect it's the news media. 40 years ago this would probably not have made the news outside Florida and Georgia, and possibly not outside Jax. Today it's on the cable stations and the interwebs all over the country.
IOW, today we hear about every one that happends anywhere in the country. 40 years ago we'd maybe hear about 1 in 10 or 1 in 20.
BTW, when I was about 10 a perv tried to get me to get in the car with him. Don't know what would have happened if I did. I do know nobody made a big deal out of it, whereas today it might have been on the local news.
Just tracked down some statistics.
According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, founded by John Walsh after his son Adam was murdered, there have been 115 child stranger abduction/murders since 1981. I guess that’s 116 now.

That’s less than 5 per year in a country of over 300M people. Not a huge rate even if the real number is several times higher. I’ve heard the 5 to 10 per year number before.
Every one is a horrible tragedy, but severely restricting the lives of children out of the fear of something that is very rare is also a tragedy.
Seriously I wonder about people when you make a comment like this...do you have the IQ of a 5 year old?
Do you realize how many people live in Florida? Do you realize that a lot of Florida is transient from a vacationing stand-point, etc?
The hard core truth is that this happens all over the country because we don’t have the proper or enforce laws in this country. We allows illegals and pedophiles to be free and roam around and victimize the innocent. Look at who is the school safety czar...someone who has advocated pedophilia in the past...this is only going to get worse.
If you are referring to the elected officials in Florida...I would agree...but there are a lot of really great people who live in FL.
This is the result of a society that thinks the most important freedom is to kill your baby in your womb.
We pay a terrible price for that ‘freedom’. Or is it ‘choice’.
And now we want to be able to help our elderly die.
America is in trouble.
It's the pedophiles, molesters and rapists that we need to keep track of. A lot of those registered offenders may have been caught peeing in the bushes and tagged as weenie wavers, or may be ordinary queers (or straights!) caught doing their thing in some semi-public place, like a parked car.
It is so damn sad that a child can’t walk 10 minutes by themselves and be safe.....but hey can’t. We can thank PLAYBOY and HUSTLER and ABORTION and DIVORCED or NON-MARRIED people who have NO GOD in their lives for most of this problem.
Actually you should put the blame on the sick perp that committed the crime. Nothing else is to blame. A sick twisted person that is capable of a crime like this could never be influenced by anything either way.
This goes to the very core of what the person is. However it is proof that evil does really exist.
The liberals in this country love to play the “blame or convict the gun” theme...it doesn’t work for gun and sure isn’t going to work for anything else including the “twinkie” defense.
Another factor is that FL due to climate is obviously attractive to homeless and often deranged people. Lot more fun being homeless in Tampa in the winter than in Chicago.
really? which ones... i want to go live in one of them...
How soon until hollywood signs a petition to be gentle with the killer? Oh wait - we don’t know yet if the killer makes movies...
