Yet another example of the folly of assigning liberals to guard duty. Joining Rachel Maddow on her MSNBC show Thursday to vent about that pesky wabbit Joe Lieberman was Fire Dog Lake blogger Jane Hamsher.
Democrats wield considerable leverage over Lieberman, Hamsher opined, to keep him from joining a GOP filibuster of ObamaCare or punish him if he does --
MADDOW: ... I think you're right to point out that other senators sort of gently expressing their disapproval of his proverbial toplessness at this point is a bigger deal than it would be in the real world, that their words do actually sort of calibrate differently. But what leverage can they really bring to bear on him in order to get him to get in line?

Thanks for getting that out in the open, Miss Maddow. If they ever actually did it ... that along with Dodd's Shennanigans will have the Dems painted as the party of craven political corruption in Connecticut for a LONG time. It won't make the state conservative, but it would make some races competitive.
It would also ensure that Lieberman becomes more independent.

Brilliant. Piss off Ct to punish Lieberman when Dodd is up for reelection and is hurting. Go for it.
The racist Hamshire was the genius who put a picture of Leiberman in black face on the web during the primary. That went over big.

There has been talk of closing Groton for five years now.
The Obammy Admadistration has very little to do with it.
All sub bases are to be consolidated on the west coast, in Bremerton and San Diego.
(I have inside info).

If the rats do this, they should realize that there will be payback. I’m sure Lieberman knows where a lot of skeletons are buried.

MADDOW: ... “disapproval of his proverbial toplessness” and “words do actually sort of calibrate differently”....I can't stand the way Maddow talks.
To: Palladin
So, no sub bases on the East Coast? That doesn’t seem like a such a great idea.

There has been talk of closing Groton for five years now. Longer than that. It's been going on since the Reagan Administration.

Your informant is full of crap. Consolidating East Coast submarine operations at Norfolk or Kings Bay I might've believed.

Hey - go for it.
Petty, partisan politics from the side that was boasting it was a “big tent” party six months ago.

What West Coast sub facilities, besides Bremerton/Kitsap and San Diego are there? I'm not counting Pearl Harbor and Apra.
The only "consolidation" of sub assets that I've heard of is moving the other two Seawolf-class boats to Kitsap, where Jimmy Carter is based. Since there are only three boats in the class, and their primary focus is WestPac and a potential conflict with China, putting all of them there makes sense.

Kings Bay and Kitsap have dedicated facilities for handling the Boomers and tending to their "special" needs. The four Ohio SSGNs are based there as well, to consolidate the parent class at two bases, one on each coast.

I never did understand why they sited Groton in a spot where a collapse of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge(accidental or not) would block our subs from exiting the Thames River. Electric Boat is sited better.
