“any of the Stargate series”
Kartographer,
Are you watching SGU? I am but seem to be having a hard time getting in to it. It’s kind of like the new BSG was for me. Hard to get in to at first.
I promised myself I'd give it a season. It's ok, but more of a psychological morality play than an adventure series. But I have all ten seasons of the original series. Loved that show. I liked Atlantis but it was losing steam and just didn't have the fun and excitement of the original. Universe has some big shoes to fill. (If they would just hurry up and learn how to run that darned ship, they could have some real adventures.)
It finally dawned on me what is wrong, is is the DS9 of the stargate franchise.
What I don’t understand about SGU is why nobody has beaten Dr. Rush to death by now.
I’m watching SGU. A bit downbeat and seems to be still looking for its premise, but the cast is pretty good and the FX are better than one would expect from SyFy. Think I’ll stick with it a while. Nice switch from ‘Bones’ and ‘Legend of the Seeker’.
For my own pretentious list, gotta put ‘Eureka’ on there.
My problem is the premise is currently really limiting. The ship is a crutch, and as a plot device it's getting really stale. It's like ST:TNG relying on holodeck and transporter malfunctions for an entire season.
If they ever break out of the "ship crisis du jour" and do something interesting out... there..., I will be more interested. But until then, I'm just trying to hang on.
