In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
soporific \sop-uh-RIF-ik; soh-puh-\, adjective
1. Causing sleep; tending to cause sleep.
2. Of, relating to, or characterized by sleepiness or lethargy.
noun:
1. A medicine, drug, plant, or other agent that has the quality of inducing sleep; a narcotic.
Example sentences:

-- T. Coraghessan Boyle, Riven Rock
They were almost an hour behind in their daily schedule, and both women looked tired after a soporific afternoon of three executive meetings.
-- Gabriel Garcia Marquez, News of a Kidnapping
Happily, these three lullaby books offer the sort of comforting bedtime soporific that has delivered generations of children, young and older, into deep, safe slumber.
-- Lisa Shea, New York Times, January 30, 1994
Etymology:
Soporific is from French soporifique, from Latin sopor, "a heavy sleep" + -ficus, "-fic," from facere, "to make."
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
Rise and shine!
(Shakes soporific haze from brain) Dang you’re up early!
When my liberal young friends ask me what I think of the Obamacare debate, I shall tell them, “soporific.” Now that “sopors” are no longer a street drug, they will probably think it is an augmentative of terrific.
They're expecting heavy winds and up to 8" rain in the next 24 hours.
My morning anti-soporific is brewing.
The solemn, studied cadences of the Ditherer-in-Chief may be intended to be mesmerizing, or at least soporific, to keep the sleeping giant unaware, but I find them irritating in the same way that the slow readers in grade school were a nuisance:
"... and then the man with the red hat ... sur - prised me when he dis - played a fol - ded ... pam - ... pam - ... pamph - let and ..."
Interesting read. I think a lot of people are thinking: That while the Bush presidency was not all that, at least he was a warm blooded human being with feelings and all that. As for the Bamster, there’s no evidence that he is.
The left thinks Obama’s terrific
While the right rightly thinks: “soporific”
While that’s true for his speech
It’s his socialist reach
That makes the man truly horrific
the amazing thing is that it was a gay website....and they liked Cheney, they really, really liked him.
Yikes, is that Ida knocking on your door? Stay safe and have an A.
Enjoy! A for you.
