HIPAA is only there to make sure relatives of a patient can’t make sure the patient is getting adequate medical care.

All HIPAA does is tell you who can get your medical records without your approval.

That is exactly what HIPAA did with my grandson -when he was no longer able to be responsible for his care (brain tumor), with the paper work signed properly- my son could not get the needed information on appointments etc. The answer was alsays “We have informed him, you will have to ask him”. Would it have made a difference? We will never know. We buried him a week ago.
