Sherlock...Ritchie has turned Holmes into a rock-and-roll roué resembling a young Keith Richards.

Sounds like another example of imposing modern angst and mores on the past. I was a bit turned off by the previews and this just confirms it. I found this on another review:
Great, energetic fun! Guy Ritchie is back and delivers a strong, gay romance. McAdams and Reilly are in the way of the bromance. Entire production excellent.

Maybe the movie should be retitled "Brokeback Victorian London".

My understanding is that he original Sherlock Holmes character was a frequent drug user. I think House MD is roughly based on Holmes’ character.

As much as I am looking forward to this movie, I still think no one can do Holmes like Jeremy Brett could.

Why do they have to do this?
Why not call him something else? Why use the Sherlock Holmes name on this dreck?

That is true although from what I understand diluted cocaine and morphine which was quite common during that time.

Saw the previews last night on the
Terminator Salvation DVD and I thought it looked pretty good.
Guy Ritchie hadn't made a decent film the whole time he was married to Madonna. Hopefully now that they're divorced, she no longer sucks the creative energy from him and this one will return to the entertaining level of Lock, Stock... and Snatch.

Going gay? How so? One of House’s subordinates is bisexual (and has been for a couple of seasons).

I liked Terminator Salvation. It wasn’t a Guy Ritchie film, though — it was by some guy that calls himself “McG”.

Absolutely. He just looked like what one would think Holmes looked like. Maybe that’s a result of my reading so much Doyle as a youth and watching Rathbone as Holmes. Either way, I always look forward to any Holmes on the big screen.
