LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech has fired football coach Mike Leach.

The school handed a termination letter to Leach's attorney, Ted Liggett, on Wednesday just before the two sides were to appear in a Lubbock, Texas, courtroom for a hearing on the coach's suspension.

Liggett says the letter says Leach is "terminated with cause effective immediately."

I think James and the AD set this whole thing up to get rid of Leach.

I’m sorry you aren’t man enough to like sports - perhaps there is a knitting thread you can post to?

Oh, now wasn't that clever.

Folks who don't live their lives vicariously through sports celebrities aren't "manly" enough for you.

One of the staff addresses James and his making the team in the link I posted above. He had the talent, but his attitude and work ethic was a big problem. I’m willing to be Leach wanted to dump the kid sooner but was forced to keep him by the AD due to Craig James.

Maybe Bill Snyder will retire again and Leach could move up to Manhattan...

If you have a problem with a player and you can’t turn him around, kick him off the team. If he’s too soft or you think he’s faking injuries, kick him off the team. If you don’t like the color of his hair, kick him off the team.

Putting someone in the darkest room you can find, removing the furniture, posting a trainer (or guard) outside the room, and threatening the kid if he leaves the room he’ll be kicked off the team, is punitive. That’s not coaching.

You’re probably right about Adam James, no one wants a whistle blower in case they were actually a trouble maker.

Weird story. If I was Adam James, I’d have told Leach to pound sand with his punishment & let the chips fall where they may with the A-D. If the injury (concussion) was backed up by a diagnosis, then he shouldn’t have had any problem winning that dispute. And if you lose... transfer out... that’s what he’s going to have to do anyway.

Didn't I hear that Leach just got a 5-year extension on his contract this past February? This is going to end-up costing Tx-Tech.

Tech's going to have a very tough time getting a quality coach. They lucked into Leach, who was a diamond in the rough. Top level college coaches have the ability to select a school not only on the basis of salary, but also on degree of program control and treatment by the administration.

According to everything I've read, Adam Jones wasn't a big talent, and his team mates disliked him. The common thread about him was that he was spoiled, lazy and undermined team morale.

Here is a link to emails from former players and coaches about Jones Emails about Adam Jones. The funny part is that Leach overrode his position coaches who did not want to take Jones or give him a scholarship. Jones received no offers from any other D1 school. It's unusual for a player who has the talent to play at a Big 12 school to not be pursued by anyone else.

For people who know Texas HS football, Jones played at Celina. Celina is an extremely successful, "connected" HS program in Texas. GA Moore turned them into a power house, most suspect by recruiting, which is against UIL rules in Texas. A lot of pro athletes have their kids go to Celina. Moore got busted for recruiting after he went to Pilot Point, where he didn't have the political protection he had in Celina.

Wow do you have your facts completely out of whack regarding concussions and the facts of this story.

You are no better than the trash at ESPN.

I called it a closet. It looks like a closet or a small garage. My understanding is that there was a second room, also.

so Leach puts him in this room as punishment. What is he being punished for? for having a concussion?

James sounds like a wimp, I know. But c’mon. Leach sounds like a weirdo.

Un-be-lievable.

One would think that they'd at least want to find out what happened before they fired the guy.

Oh, wait. Celebrity dad having his turn at playing Phil Simms this year, and a boss who can't handle having an autonomous individual on his staff. Never mind... /s

The kid's football career is over, btw. He may as well transfer to SMU or somewhere to finish his degree.

Certainly not worth firing a coach without a spot on his record in 10 years.
